I read this book in 2019 when my 7th grade teacher recommended it. I don’t remember the genre or the main character’s name but I do remember what the dust cover looked like. The dust cover was a girl standing somewhere high holding up a red or green cloth. The main character was taken from her family and brought to a “school,” it felt more like a facility. At the school, she was given a new name and was told to wear a colored dress (either red or green) to distinguish her from the other ranked girls. In the beginning of the book she cleaned clothes, rags, and bedding in what felt like a boiler room with a bunch of other girls and slept in that room. But, towards the end, she was given the task of cleaning floors in one of the main buildings. During the day, she took classes and used handed down textbooks. In one of the textbooks, there were messages written about rebelling against the school. She assembled a group of girls, told each other their real names, and rebelled against the school and the terrible school. I just recently started building a personal book collection and would love to add this book but I can’t remember the title or author so any help is appreciated!
