Anyone have recommendations for books pubbed in 2022 that aren't represented on the Locus recommended reading list this year?

I feel a lot of these are series books and well known authors with several awards under their belt. Anything the zeitgeist has missed?

thanks - I don't usually read that thread as I'm usually disappointed with the picks there

CBRetriever | 6105 comments Juniper Wiles and the Ghost Girls by Charles de Lint - maybe not listed because it's a sequel

Sword-Bearer by Jennifer Roberson - also a sequel

The First Binding by R.R. Virdi - this was interesting

Me too. That was my favorite of the fantasies published in 2022 that I read last year.

Station Eternity was my favorite SF book from 2022 (perhaps a minority viewpoint given the less enthusiastic ratings, but it worked very well for me).

Hank (hankenstein) | 1230 comments The Measure was pretty good and was on the goodreads nominations. Maybe it wasn't sci-fi enough

The First Binding was a DNF for me. The MC was trying too hard to be Kvothe but fell short. The writing drove me up the wall, too!

I second Station Eternity. That was a whole lot of fun.

I'm also surprised Very Secret isn't on the list. I thought that would be a slam dunk for consideration.

Also surprised at the lack of:

Scorpica
Drunk on All Your Strange New Words
Legends & Lattes

Meredith | 1775 comments I really enjoyed The Stardust Thief and thought it could at least be on the First Novel list.

scroll down the first post in the thread that Allison linked - Legends & Lattes is under First Novels.

I thought it would have been listed too. It was a decent read!

These aren't exactly books that I think should have been listed considering my feelings about such awards, but not having any of them on the list is a bit of a surprise to me.

Mickey7
The Change
Ion Curtain
The Darkening
The Peacekeeper
Mercury Rising
Kaikeyi
Braking Day
Lesser Known Monsters of the 21st Century

(If any of these weren't published in 2022 as I suspect, blame Goodreads for the misinformation)

I agree about Peacekeeper! Maybe not sci fi enough, or promoted more as a mystery than sci fi? I thought it was a really well-realized alternative world.

Oh yeah! Kaikeyi too!

message 18: by Tamara (new)

Tamara | 271 comments I also thought The Stardust Thief was interesting and unique, and a good first novel. Not perfect or amazing, but worth checking out.
That's actually the only one published last year that I've read and enjoyed enough, so far.

Kaladin | 127 comments I loved Braking Day. :) intersting world building that felt accessible. The mystery kept me on my toes.
