SOLVED. Childrens Fantasy book - Kids found unicorn and needed to hide it on the balcony. Read late 90ies (in German, but likely translated). Book probably 10-20 years older. [s]

Hi, this is a bit of a weird one: I have vague memories of reading this book as a child, probably 1995-2000 but it looked like it was probably a good 10-20 years old. I read it in German, but I think it might have been translated since I remember the setting felt a little bit unfamiliar to me, even though the story was set in contemporary times and our world -as if it was set in a country I wasn't familiar with.

The story was about a group of children (I think a brother and sister and a friend of theirs) who somehow found a unicorn and were trying to help it get back home (to the forest/the past/a different dimension/???). The scene I remember is that they at some point needed to hide it on the balcony.

YES!!! It took me a while to figure out the German title, but I'm 98% sure that this is it. The cover and the description of the lightning hitting the statue feel very familiar.


Just for completeness, the German title is "Das Geheimnis im dunklen Garten"
