When You’re Not Reading a Cozy
I am currently in the midst of multiple books because I can't just read one at a time. So right now I'm reading the Golden Girl by Elin Hildebrand. Also reading The Black Echo by Michael Connelly.
I can't quite believe it. I've been working on catching up on the Gaslight Mysteries for years, and now I'm looking at the most recent.
Murder on Bedford Street by Victoria Thompson https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I also read two children's books. Birds of a Feather: A Book of Idioms and Silly Pictures byVanita Oelschlager is a whimsical picture book that appeals to young children but also provides a springboard tor a Language arts lesson In my opinion it is a must have for school libraries. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I also read an ARC of an upcoming children's book due in October.
Coyote's Wild Home by Pulitzer prize winner Barbara Kingsolver. this storybook is a gentle lesson in environmentalism with beautiful artwork. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.07 rounded to 4 stars review of Enola Holmes and the Mark of the Mongoose
by Nancy Springer:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
YA Historical Mystery
Overall, this book was an engaging and atmospheric young adult historical mystery that moved at a quick pace. The author does a good job of world-building. While the mystery is not overly complicated, it is entertaining and thought-provoking.

I read three books for Netgalley.
Ellie's Deli: Wishing on Matzo Ball Soup! features a Jewish kid but the appeal is universal. This heart warming book covers several themes. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show....
Cat Family at The Museumwas a 3.5* rounded to 4 flap book intended for older kids. It was interesting but didn't have a clear target audiance.

The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac tells the origin tale of the Chinese zodiac, elaborating on the characters that each sign posess. It also explains why Cat and Rat don't get along.
https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Out of curiosity I looked at two other books on the same folktale. Another book by the same title The Great Race: The Story of the Chinese Zodiac is reviewed here.

Here is my 4.26 rounded to 4 stars review of Cave 13
by Jonathan Maberry:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Action / Military Thriller
Overall, this novel is a shockingly dark, disturbing, and an emotional ride. Once again Maberry hooked me with the fascinating prologue than pulled me immediately into the story.
Here is my 3.16 rounded to 3 stars review of My Roommate Is a Vampire
by Jenna Levine:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Overall, this was fun and charming, but the ending was too quick and easily resolved in this slow burn romance for me. While there wasn’t enough depth to the plot for my tastes, I still enjoyed it.
I am about to read 'A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow' by Laura Taylor Namey for my monthly bookclub. I believe it's YA. We vote on one of four options from a particular genre, so I end up getting exposure to books I might not otherwise read.
Here is my 4.21 rounded to 4 stars review of 4th of July
by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
part legal thriller and part crime thriller
With the usual short chapters, this story progressed quickly with other members of the Women’s Murder Club putting in cameo appearances. It was fast-paced and filled with action. Additionally, it has a shocking twist that completely caught me by surprise.
My review for
Alex: Through My Eyes - Australian Disaster Zones by Rosanne Hawkehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Finished another collection of stories on my Kindle, East O' the Sun and West O' the Moon by Gudrun Thorne-Thomsen. It’s an anthology of Norwegian folklore, including classics like "The Three Billy Goats Gruff” and “The Princess on the Glass Hill.”
Okay... I was reading a romance that referenced the children's book The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch. I went in search of and read it. AND, I hated it.
It ends so abruptly without clarifying its message -- or what I think is its message, maybe I'm giving it too much credit -- that it ruined the whole book for me. :o(

I am reading The Paris Daughter
by Kristin Harmel. Set in France during WWII. Well written (She has done a lot of research), good characters , but I am weary of books set in occupied France.
Here is my 4.43 rounded to 4 stars review of Wild As a Wolf
by Paige Tyler:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Paranormal Romantic Suspense / Urban Fantasy
Overall, this book is emotionally-charged, full of danger, and intense; with a terrific romance and nonstop action. The plot is twisty and the first sentence had me rapidly turning the pages. The author introduces some new types of supernatural villains in this one.

A Peculiar Combination by Ashley Weaver. This historical mystery is on that gray line for me between cozy and traditional. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I am reading and enjoying The Saturday Evening Girls Club
by Jane Healy. Set in 1908 Boston. This book tells the tale of four immigrant young women who want to break away from the old way of doing things. There was an real club by this name in Boston at the time. Very interesting book.

Romantic Suspense
This is the second book in the New Orleans romantic suspense series that is also partly a police procedural and a private investigator crime novel.
The prologue immediately grabbed my attention and the story continues with action, investigation by both the police and the private investigation firm, and plenty of twists and turns. The novel builds suspense in a way that pulls readers into the lives of the characters. The plot is full of chasing down leads and interviewing people as well as plenty of danger for those involved.
