Here is my 4.03 rounded to 4 stars review of Sisters of the Lost Nation
by Nick Medina:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The author has crafted a novel filled with native folklore interwoven with a coming-of-age story and a riveting and all-too-real mystery. Overall, this amazing, memorable, and emotional debut novel is a powerful and vivid page-turner with great world-building details and tension.
My review for
Starter Dog: My Path to Joy, Belonging and Loving This World by Rona Maynardhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 3.16 rounded to 3 stars review of The Secret Service of Tea and Treason
by India Holton:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
India Holton blended historical fantasy, romantic comedy, and espionage. Overall, this memorable and funny novel has adventure, romance, a mystery, and plenty of excitement. My biggest quibble was that there were times when the story was more “telling” than “showing”. While the book is somewhat over the top, it also has more depth than one might expect with the level of romantic comedy involved.
When I'm not reading Four Leaf Cleaver, I am reading Spare -- nothing like mixing things up a little, lolz
Finished two books today:
The Road by Jack London — Nonfiction. Tales of his experience traversing the US and Canada as a hobo.
Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops by Jen Campbell — Nonfiction. Actual conversations between booksellers and customers. I think readers as well as anyone who has ever worked retail would appreciate this book. I’ve encountered a few scenarios featured in this book, such as parents treating store employees as babysitters and children climbing/hanging off shelves or clothing racks. So-called adults are often worse than their kids.

I am reading Portrait of Peril
by Larua Joh Rowland. This book is set in 1890 England. Book 4 of the series. There is much discussion of ghost and spritualism, along with the saga of Sarah's father. It is a good series but I like her Sano Ichiro series better.
I listened to Exit West. I have to think about it before I write a review. I can't say that I liked it and I probably wouldn't have finished it, but it was short and for a challenge.
I finished a wonderful book Remarkably Bright Creatures
by Shelby van Pelt. I gave it 5 starts. It focuses on Marcellus the Giant Pacific Octopus. Human characters are good too. It is her debut novel. I hope she writes more.
Alice wrote: "I finished a wonderful book Remarkably Bright Creatures

Here is my 4.65 rounded to 5 stars review of Breakneck
by Marc Cameron:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Marc Cameron has created another action-packed, suspenseful, and shocking crime thriller in this fifth book in the Arliss Cutter series. This tense, exciting, gripping, and high-octane book takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster.
Just finished a poetry collection:
Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman - really beautifulhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Here is my 4.5 rounded to 5 stars review of Loving the Wolf: A Fated Mates Romance by Paige Tyler:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Paranormal romantic suspense
Overall, this book is emotionally-charged, full of danger, and intense; with a terrific romance and nonstop action.
I am enjoying Rhys Bowen's new book Where the Sky Begins
. Set in 1940 London and then moves to country side. Good Perspective on London bombings and then evacuees. Well written.
Here is my 4.66 rounded to 5 stars review of Forgotten War
by Don Bentley:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This fourth book in the Matt Drake thriller series has an intensity that few writers can achieve. Overall, this fantastic novel is shocking, emotionally-charged, and riveting. Be aware that there is plenty of danger, death, intrigue, and violence in this story.
Here is my 3.73 rounded to 4 stars review of Rogue Rogue by Elle Kennedy: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is a new adult novel full of angst and drama. There are plenty of secrets, unlawful activities, bullying and romance in this second book of the series. Once again, there are cliffhanger threads.
Here is my 3.81 rounded to 4 stars review of Bernice Runs Away
by Talya Tate Boerner:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
What a heartwarming and entertaining read!
Literary Fiction
I am reading Murder at Beacon Rock
by Alyssa Maxwell.Set in 1900 Newport, RI. I have always enjoyed this Gilded Age series. Ms. Maxwell has grown our main character, Emma, very well over the previous book. Look forward to the next book. Start with book one with this series you would be bit lost otherwise.
Here is my 3.23 rounded to 3 stars review of Just Add Coffee or Tea: A tea break read mix of my poems
by Julie McCarthy:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I needed a book of poetry for a challenge and selected this one. I enjoyed the diversity of the poems.
Up late finishing The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Can honestly say I liked this more now than when we had to read it in high school.
Brenda wrote: "Usually the way Heather. Back then you HAD to, now it's your choice :)"
True, though I did like most of the required reading in high school. This is one of the few books I didn’t finish — I grew bored with it. Reading it now I was able to pick up on the foreshadowing and was interested in seeing how it played out.

Plus I guess your tastes have changed and become varied - I know mine have. It's great you enjoyed it now though :)
Started Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day by Winifred Watson today, and read more than half. What a fun —- and funny — novel!
I'm currently reading
Midnight at the Blackbird Café. I was pulled into the story from the start and can't wait to see where it goes.
It’s going to be a long day. Couldn’t sleep last night, so ended up reading until 3am and finished Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Loved it! It’s a delight “Cinderella” story set in the Roaring Twenties in London. Would definitely recommend.
I finished Eldest
by Christopher Paolini last night. It is book 2 in The Inheritance Cycle. Not as good as the first book but still enjoyable. On to book 3.

I put down for June after moving it yet again, and I really hope to get to it this time!
Meg — It was on my TBR last year for a challenge and I never got to it, so I was glad to work it in for challenges and a buddy read this year. I read half of it during a day off and looked forward to breaks where I could squeeze in a few pages.
