First quarter - (view spoiler)[I'm loving learning more about Kissen. She is a strong character with a tough exterior who doesn’t show mych emotion but I can see a softness there, even though she tries to deny that side to her. Her leg injury hasn't been explained yet but I'm sure there's a story there.

Skediceth is so interesting. He seems as sweet as the girl he is attached to, Inara, nd I really hope both can be saved. They can exchange learning a strength in exchange for Kissen learning that being vulnerable isnt a weakness, from them. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter- (view spoiler)[ "No bad-mouthing —’ he glared at Kissen, who had clearly already pissed him off. She was good at that, Inara thought. Kissen gave him a bright smile as she scratched Legs’s nose, flashing gold from one of her canines . ‘No crying—’ he frowned at Inara—‘and no side tracks."

That snippet of dialogue pretty perfectly describes their characters 😅

Elo discovers Kissen's curse etched onto her skin by a god, which is a pretty chilling image. This is the first time I've really understood why a godkiller might be needed. They havent seemed too bad before. This was followed by an attack from a shadowdemon, summoned by an old, wild god. Who sent it to them??

Now three humans and the little god travel alone I feel their adventure has really begun. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[Oooh, so this is not Elo and Inara's first meeting? I've been so eager to learn more about her past and why her mother kept her so secluded! I was so shocked that Skedi used his will to overrule Inara's though. I really didn't think that running with Elo and leaving Kissen was a good idea so I'm glad it didn't actually occur. Now there is even more to discover about Inara, such as how she fought back against the godling's will. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[This was such a fun read! I really enjoyed all the central characters and my time within this world. My favourite parts were those that focused on the central characters softening towards each other as they discovered more about their pasts and personalities. I loved Inara most of all for her fragility. I wanted to protect her just as much as Kissen did! She showed her inner-fire and how much she had grown when she followed Kissen to protect Elo though. She became far removed from the weepy girl we were first introduced to, in that moment.

I really felt for Elo at the end as he felt so torn between Arren and the others. I could understand his predicament but Arren showed his true self when he turned upon him, desiring his heart, and made up his mind for him.

The final pages with Kissen in the water had me so eager for book two!! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Wow, I am really loving this so far. I just adore the world-building. I love the entire concept of the book. The opening prologue really started things off with a bang, in my opinion. I loved it. It legit made me tear up. I wonder if Kissen would have survived if her father had not made the sacrifice for her? And how in the world did she become a godkiller when her life was saved by a god, even if from her father’s sacrifce? Perhaps she is bitter that the god that her family was devoted to did nothing to save them?

I really like the disability and LGBTQ+ rep in this. It’s always nice to see, especially in fantasy books.

I don’t understand why Arren banned all god worship. Was it only because gods killed his family? And what happened to make him be indebted to a god for his life? Especially when he banned them all and has them killed.

I am super curious about Inara and Skedi. It is interesting that he doesn’t have a shrine. How can he be there without one? And why is he connected to Inara. My guess is that either she is his shrine somehow or that her mysterious father is a god, perhaps even Skedi if he has another form. I definitely think that she is either a shrine or that her father is a god. Or maybe that is all misdirection on the author’s part? =P (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I agree. There is a lot more to Kissen that she keeps hidden. I also love her strength and I also love her no-nonsense attitude. The leg injury was in the prologue! =) And it's a doozy if you don't remember then you should skip back and read it. =)

Holy shit this font is small???? I forgot I met this author and had it signed LMAO. (view spoiler)[What a start damn. So she and her family were born from the god of water, but their city turned to a god of fire and thus wanted to sacrifice them, she lost her leg (and her family) in the process, her father sacrificing himself for her. And the gods exist too, I thought they might just be stories but we already saw Osidisen.

So Kissen kills gods for a living, that appear by people’s shrines and then feed on their fears and such? Damn, how many are there then? Oh more POVs, Inara. She’s bound to Skedi, a god of white lies that can seemingly turn into any creature? Cool! But mysterious as well, is she somehow his shrine?

Holy crap, the king wants all the gods dead because he fought them in the war, even though the good ones helped him. But somehow one saved him since there’s a flame instead of his heart woah??? Elo seems great lmao, a brute that bakes 🤣 and clearly has PTSD. So Inara can see emotions through colors because of Skedi, cool! Oh we’re getting Skedi’s POV too! It sounds like Inara’s mother is hiding her; maybe she isn’t really her child and a god too or something? Since the city said that none of her kids were alive anymore and she isn’t allowed out?

Damn someone set Inara’s house on fire, she’s lucky to have escaped. I’m glad we’re getting Skedi’s POV too because he clearly does love Ina and I would've doubted it if we didn't see his POV. Elo wants to save arren and will thus go to find the gods, not sure what his plan is there lol. Interested to see where this’ll go! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Do hate how Kissen keeps calling Skedi pest, poor thing has feelings too. It really does sound like Ina’s mother knew her nature since she said even the king would see her greatness?? It’s odd to learn more about the MCs, such as Kissen’s past in Blenraden, through the eyes of the other MCs lol. I’m liking Telle and Yatho too, they’re so nice, and the chemistry between them and Kissen is cool too. Looking forward to learning more about their pasts.

Useful that through Skedi Inara can know whether people are lying too. They’re joining the pilgrimage under fake names to get where they want to go, not sure how they see this panning out. Kissen is a bit too intense for my liking, she’s rude to bloody everyone. She now knows that Elo is a knight, and he knows she’s a godkiller. Trouble! I wonder why they were attacked tho, it must have something to do with Inara. And apparently Kissen has a death curse on her what??? And the tattoo saying fuck you wtf chick. She’s a bit too much, it’s unrealistic.

Skedi wants to be free so badly but I’m not sure whether I trust him, I thought he liked Inara but he has potential to become evil. Kissen will definitely kill him. He knows their real identity omg. At least the others got away, it’s sad that they’re literally the reason that these people are under attack by shadow creatures. It’s interesting though, really want to learn more about it. Still don’t get why Kissen even took her horse tho ngl. And Skedi was influencing the others, he gives me the creeps & has potential to become really evil idk. He wants Elo. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[They definitely make an interesting group. So Elo fought with kissen in the war and she doesn’t remember woah. Poor elo. So her curse isn’t active anymore and that’s why it’s white, I wonder who/what she was cursed by. And the black tattoo is a boon she’s yet to claim, clearly from Osidisen. How is it possible that Inara hit the rabbit on her first try and perfectly wtf, Mary Sue that you? Skedi is putting Elo against kissen omg he sucks so much argh!! Skedi is actively influencing them, even Inara. I just really don’t trust him. I hate how he’s putting them against Kessin knowingly ugh I feel so bad for her :(

it’s odd how she can block the god though, why can’t Elo? This feels so intrusive, he’s literally taking over Inara’s voice and body. Skedi should be killed asap, and I don’t get how Inara seriously thinks he’s her friend and wouldn’t betray her the second he can. I hated reading about Skedi influencing her, but I’m glad she broke his control. What is she though, she can’t have done that easily, I’m still thinking she’s a god too or something. I really do want him dead tbh.

Kissen was into Yatho tho what? Hm Skedi protected them once and now Inara already wants to trust him? He clearly loves fear as well don’t be daft ugh. Why do they think he acted selfless??? If Inara dies so does he so he just protected his own life?? Damn so Canovan cursed Elo because he’s in the rebellion, and Inara’s mother was seemingly connected too? That’s trouble… but how did he do it?? Are there more like Skedi, bound to a human? glad they’re kinda bonding tho. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[It’s sort of odd that Kissen and Elo are interested in each other, don’t really see them that way honestly lol. They’re finally in the town, but I thought it was deserted? Apparently not? And what I also don’t understand, do the emotions have different colors in everyone? Since she mentioned it was odd that Elo’s fear was gold for a knight. Maybe the guards are just there to stop people from visiting those gods? They’re pretty creepy but I also do feel bad for the small ones, the one for shoes was kinda cute arranging his shrine and all lol. Love that Kissen is warming up to them too, although not all should be trusted clearly. It seems to me like Inara is the daughter of a god, that’s who her father was & that’s why she can see colors in emotions & can stop other gods? Maybe of persuasion or something?

Aan seemed pretty cool too and we’re getting glimpses of Kissen’s past. Elo will have to sacrifice someone to get a new heart for Arren, he’s definitely not worth it ngl. Why would he even help him at this point, we’ve barely seen their relationship and it’s thus hard to care for him :/ can’t believe Elo would give the lion head to Aan, it meant so much to him :( and Ina giving her hair seems like trouble too I’m scared. Guessing Elo will sacrifice himself :(

Skedi seems to be nice anyway tho, it seems like he wants to protect them all now. She still hasn’t told kissen about seeing colors woah rude. Woah they had sex??? That came out of nowhere damn. Cute tho. Not sure how I feel about their relationship development still, i saw them not as father and daughter lol. Do love that they finally told each other about their pasts. Her relationship with Inara is darn cute tho, her willing to sacrifice it all for her. Scared for the endgame! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[So arren jumped in front of elo when he was nearly killed by a god, that’s kinda odd idk. And the veiga then killed the god, not Arren like they want people to believe. Still not sure how to feel about that dude. Oh no omg is he going to sacrifice to the god that those people sacrificed Kissen’s family for???? Odd that the god looked like kissen, is she family? Aw Skedi said he chose Inara as his shrine. Still don’t really trust him honestly but that’s cute. I’m also pretty sure he’s subtly featured on the back cover, which is just cute as hell lmao. He looks so cuddly HAHAHA.

Bro arren???? Knew I hated him. He’s influenced by both Hestra, who saved him before, and now the other fire god Hseth and wants to become a god himself😭 but why would these gods help him get that??? The fight was intense omg Hseth didn’t even know her, but she threw them both into the sea! She still has the sea gods boon though so that’ll save her for sure. Aan’s water was helpful too damn! Berrick and Batseder suddenly coming to help is so odd ngl.

Good ending damn, Inara undid the curse on Elo!! Can’t wait to finally get some answers on who and what she is honestly. Damn dude. Poor Legs, missing Kissen. And kissen finally claimed her boon, not sure why she wouldn’t in the first place. Interested to see what it’ll do to her; whether it’ll heal her leg too? I hope not bc it’s part of who she is and not some deficiency. I still don’t get why the dude put a curse on Elo though, that part was so odd. And he’s the only one who knows about Arren’s truth, that’ll be BIG trouble :/ I’m scared, he’ll ruin Elo/put a bounty on his head for sure. Won’t he be able to find him anywhere too? Kissen mentioned that gods can go anywhere, Aan could reach anyone through water, so Arren through fire maybe?? Ready for the next one!!!! Like 4 stars, the font bothered me and it was slow at times, but interesting premise! Also, Inara reminded me a lot of the girl from the Witcher. (hide spoiler)]
