Shmurp | 2 comments Hi all,

Trying to help my partner find a book he read as a kid and would love to re-read. We're pretty sure it's *not* Far North by Will Hobbs, and we're sure it was written after 1977 (but more likely in the 90s/very early 2000s), and it's likely written by a Canadian author.

Here's what he remembers:

There's a teenage boy with a sibling/cousin. A family member (likely uncle?) comes to visit in a plane. The siblings/cousins paint MILLENNIUM FALCON in decorative lettering on the side of the plane because they think it would be a cool thing to do.

At some point they go for a flight with the uncle and flew into cloud, got disoriented, and the plane crashed. We think it was a land airplane (like a Cessna, not a float plane) and it crashed on land, in the Canadian wilderness. The uncle dies.

At the end the protagonist draws a picture/makes some art depicting the uncle to pay tribute, because art was important to him.

I realize it's not a lot to go off of, but hoping the Millennium Falcon and the art at the end might separate it from all the other plane crash books out there. Any suggestions/leads are appreciated!

It seemed like The Falcon had always been sort of a charm, the only thing that could bring a truce between me and Kat. The one and only time the two of us had ever got along, come pretty close to being friends, even, was the day we’d painted The Falcon.

We didn’t do a bad job for a couple of eleven-year-olds. The falcon was one of my best pieces of art and Kat’s big THE MILLENNIUM FALCON, in black-rimmed red letters, was a real class job — I even told her so.
