Shuffle is always fantastic for random combinations. I leave it on that to make my busride a little more interesting in the morning, plus the louder songs wake me up!

I use a computer as my primary sound source in my house. I have several computers up and running all the time. However, Cosmic Garden (what the media server is called) is my music computer. I have just over 37,000 songs on there. However, I mostly keep them sorted into different playlists. When the music is playing and a song comes up that I don't like, I don't want to have to run to the office and skip it.
My wife has a tiny iPod clip thing. My kids each have Touches. I have a Creative Zen I rarely use. I make mix cd's for car trips. I make dinner playlists. I make exercise playlists. I've even made sex playlists. The point is it is all in the playlist.
If I'm in a classical mood, I'll play all classical. If I want something harder, I'll play something harder. Thus if things are sorted correctly, I won't have Mahler's Kindertotenlieder (German symphonic pieces which are very sad indeed) followed by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails screaming 'I WANT TO F@CK YOU LIKE AN ANIMAL'. Both are in my lists. Both are among my favorites in their respective genres. I just can't switch gears that fast.
I think it is brave of you to put everything in a single playlist and let it go from there.

I think most of you will know Zeppelin but not necessarily this song. The Burnside got some airplay in the early to mid 90's when it came out. A few of you might know Cotton but more likely the Zeppelin cover song. Los Lobos has been around forever but this is certainly not one of their better known songs. If you know the God's Monkey song, you are one up on me. I have no idea where this came from although I think I like it.

Interesting.

This morning's totally random list of all songs on the computer is:
1. 4:56 AM - Roger Waters from the Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. Great stuff all the way around.
2. In a Big Country - Big Country - um... yeah... so I was alive in the 80's and managed to keep some of the music with me.
3. Come Together - The Beatles - I have no need to defend this to anyone.
4. Thanks Bro - Filter - I don't know where this song came from or even if I've heard it before but it's decent.
5. Mahna, Mahna - Cake - I think I actually like the Muppets cover of this song best. But Cake is definitely cool.
1. Conquest - White Stripes
2. I know what you dub - Michelle Shocked
3. Jazzman - Carole King
4. Nobody's Fat in Aspen - Christine Lavin
5. Disarm - Smashing Pumpkins
I thought it would be a cooler list starting off with the White Stripes. If I can admit to still having Carole King, who hasn't been cool in 30 years, on my player, you can tell us what comes up.
