SOLVED. Thriller/ Mystery/(maybe) YA book about a boy who live in poverty and he worked at a subway or something like that. and there were murders in the subway. i read it in 2015/2016 in high school English class. i remember the cover was red. [s]

i read this book in high school around 2015 or 2016 for my english class. i remember the cover was red and it was a thriller. we would have discussions in class about the themes of the novel but i only remember talking about the subject of psychopathy. the boy maybe around 15 or 16 years old i think, and he worked in a subway lost and found. something happened in that subway like a murder or something and i think he tries to investigate it on his own. he has a friend around his age and a father or at least a father figure that was abusive i'm pretty sure. i think the boy himself believes he is the murderer. i can't remember if we ever finished it so i don't know anything about the ending.
