Fran | 12278 comments Does anyone have a suggestion for France?

I have one series that takes place in France that I really like....

Curio Curio (Curio, #1) by Cara McKenna

But I would love some other ideas in case I don't get to buy the next in the series in the near future.

~KarenH~ | 11346 comments The only ones I had on my radar are both historicals, Forever His by Shelly Thacker and The Prince of Midnight by Laura Kinsale, but here's a link to the GR page of books set in France - https://www.goodreads.com/places/26-f...

Possibly, but I don't really think so - I know one was in Andorra (because I had a strange interest in that tiny country when I was a kid), but I thought the others were in London. Maybe partly in France though, since it borders Andorra, but not sure...

MountainKat | 31599 comments It looks like they travel through France in the first of the trilogy and again back to France at the end of the third.

Beth I just finished my first spring book and ran to add it to this challenge -- and I managed to find a setting not included! It was a Space Romance! Curses!

Still, it was a good book. Fortune's Pawn by Rachel Bach.

Vanessa | 2 comments Another other boat/ship romance is Burn by Linda Howard. And if I recall correctly, a good chunk of Elizabeth Lowell's Night Diver takes place on a boat.

Maya Banks' When Day Breaks is a romantic suspense set in Paris.

Space ship? =)

MountainKat | 31599 comments I was thinking the last three of Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor books would work for ship/boat.

Fran | 12278 comments I found an author who writes several books set in Canada-

Zoe York

What Once Was Perfect - first in a series set in Canada and several in the series are free right now on Amazon

Love in a Small Town- another first in a series set in Canada

Fran | 12278 comments I didn't realize the Rocky Mountain series is set in Canada....love that series!

message 23: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments The next in that series is what I'm using for this challenge!

Fran | 12278 comments This one is set in Paris, France, has great reviews and it's currently FREE on Amazon-

Frenched Frenched (Frenched, #1) by Melanie Harlow

MountainKat | 31599 comments Oh, I just remembered this shortie was also set in France - French Cooking 101, there is a short sequel too.

Amanda (amandasorrasson) | 156 comments This may have already been asked but I couldn't find anything in previous messages but I wanted to know if a book where the family visited Hong Kong but the whole book wasn't set there is it still accepted?

I also have another book which is a fictional town in Italy, is this also acceptable?

message 27: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Amanda!

50% or more of the book needs to be set in the location needed.
Yes, I will say that a fictional town in the real country is fine to use.

Thanks for the great questions, I will add the info to the challenge rules :)

Hi Calila!

A dorm room can be used for 'college' but not for 'apartment'. I had more of a traditional apartment building in mind for that one. Sorry!

are these words separate? any tropical location or any island?

I seem to have lots of books on islands that are not tropical.

Fran, I'm having issues with reading books based on the synopsis and/or setting information on GR that end up not qualifying because they're in that location for less than 50% of the book. I've now read 2 books that I thought would qualify, but both are only in the specified location for about 30% of the book. Any suggestions on how to make sure enough of the book takes place in the desired setting?

message 36: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments **Amendment to the rules of the challenge**

Due to the sometimes unreliable information found on GR, in this case, setting information, and not wanting to penalize people for trusting information found on GR, if you have a reasonable expectation based on GR info that the book will qualify, you can use it.

So here are the amended rules for setting:

To determine what the setting for a book is, only one of the following must be true for the specific book:

-50% of the book takes place in the setting
-A significant aspect of the story involves the setting
-The setting is referenced in the precis.
-The setting info on the GR book page lists the setting

I hope this helps when trying to find a setting that fits the categories in the challenge :)

message 38: by Jenn (new)

Jenn C | 7 comments Do the books have to be romance? I usually read romance but I've been on a mystery kick lately... I didn't see anything in the description about genre (that I could see anyway!) so I thought I'd ask just in case...

Thanks!

message 39: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Jenn!

The books don't have to be Romance, any genre is fine :)
