aaaannn | 4 comments I'm looking for a cookbook published in the 80s or earlier.
The following book spine image is the only image I have about the book.

Could you help me find it?

SamSpayedPI | 2306 comments So that (probably) just says "COOKBOOK"; it's not much to go on. In fact, I would guess that it's just a prop and not a real book.

Denis DeLong | 211 comments This looks extremely familiar to me; it's a font that was often used on Julia Child's books, which leads me to think it could have been from the same publisher, William Morrow and Co. Maybe that could be of some help.

Emily | 295 comments There's definitely a space between Cook and Book if that helps.
It looks very similar to the font on The way to cook: A cook book by Julia Child.
but it may be an edition I am not familiar with because it is slightly different.
It is probably a major cook or publisher.
I do not think it is a prop because that looks like a format popular back then. This is the bottom half of a spine.

Denis DeLong | 211 comments I'd swear that I either have or have had this book at some time.

JoLynn | 67 comments Possibly The New York Times Cook Book by Craig Claiborne

message 7: by Denis (new)

Denis DeLong | 211 comments Thinking maybe not; all the editions for which I can find images have the title in block rather than running down the spine. Fits in with the words being separated, though, Emily's got a good eye!

aaaannn, what type of cookbook is this?

When did you first read it?

message 9: by Denis (new)

Denis DeLong | 211 comments There are not that many that separate "Cook" and "Book"; Better Homes & Gardens did in theirs. I had also thought of The I Hate to Cook Book or I Still Hate to Cook Book by Peg Bracken, but the font doesn't look quite the same. A few of the Betty Crocker books also used this format.

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments Where is the photo from?

Is it a book you owned, or an image taken from a movie or TV show?

message 11: by aaaannn (last edited Jan 29, 2023 05:26AM) (new)

aaaannn | 4 comments Thank you all for helping me. This is definitely a published book containing a lot of recipes. My mom used to own it but I lost it by mistake and would like to buy a new one. And the partial image is from my old photo. Unfortunately, the photo contained only the bottom half of the book spine as Emily said.

What type of recipes?

message 13: by aaaannn (new)

aaaannn | 4 comments It contains a lot of slow cooker recipes for western food.

message 14: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments Betty Crocker's New Picture Cook Book has a similar font, but not an exact match.

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments Oh, wait, I think maybe I got it!

The Complete Family Cook Book

The Complete Family Cook Book 2023 Recipes by Jane Byrne

Same weird letter K's and the same O's that don't fully meet in the middle.

Ann | 166 comments Lol, I looked at that image and thought, "This book is from this year, why did Rainbowheart think it was from the 80's??" and then I realized, no, it doesn't say "2023 recipes!" to be modern, it was saying "2,023 recipes" as in that's a lot!

message 17: by Denis (last edited Jan 29, 2023 05:19PM) (new)

Denis DeLong | 211 comments Rainbowheart may have actually nailed this one. It was originally published in 1979, apparently always in paperbound. It would help if there was an image of the spine somewhere. aaaannn, do you happen to remember if your book was paper- or hard-bound?

message 18: by Denis (new)

Denis DeLong | 211 comments I need to correct myself; there were apparently earlier editions as well, some probably in hardbound. That really looks like a dustjacket to me.

message 19: by Reader in NJ (new)

Reader in NJ (readerinnj) | 61 comments I also think that Rainbowheart identified the book. Everything fits. Let's see what the OP has to say.

message 20: by aaaannn (new)

aaaannn | 4 comments Thank you! I haven't been able to find the same edition with the given title of "The Complete Cook Book", but let me try more.
Anyway, the book was a hardback and the cover was black or dark brown.

message 21: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28672 comments There was also an earlier edition from 1970, but the font is different.
