Theme: Possibilities
Elements: Twins and Tricksters

Brought to you by Marianne Petrino
It can be one or multiple sets of twins and it can be one or multiple tricksters. The twins and tricksters don't have to be separate entities. They can be the same, if so desired, or separate. Hopefully folks can have a bit of fun with all the possibilities the challenge offers :)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Got mine in. Not my best. RL has me too distracted.

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Wanted to make sure I got it done because I am off to NJ to check in on my mom. :)

My girlfriend is down in Florida caring for her dad, who is very sick and at end of life. Prays for jim and your mom.

Have to up and move to Florida, at least for a couple months, this weekend. Taking a two day drive with my dog and whatever I pack in a short time. Kelly's dad is at end-of-life and we need to care for him for the time he has.

Posted a "twin" story I had wrote back in 2015. Just no time to write a new story.

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Safe travels Jot, and I hope that you are able to spend good time with Kelly's father during these last days.

Justin Sewall | 1244 comments Felt good to write and be creative vs. the freelance articles that have been absorbing my free time.

Jeremy Lichtman | 410 comments Got the bones of a story, but we'll have to see if I can make it work this month.

message 10: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Sympathies and prayers, Jot. Not sure how much time my mom has.

It is good that you are able to be with her. I'm sure it means the world to her.

message 12: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Jot--So good that you can be there to support your girlfriend and her father at this time. Safe travels to you.

message 13: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Marianne, my utter respect for your support of, care for, your mother.

message 14: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Thanks, Jot and Paula. My sister does the heavy daily lifting. I just deal with the big picture stuff, which I suspect will get bigger soon as mom's heart valve is failing.

message 15: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Jot: Given your situation, might it be a good idea to suspend the contest for a bit?

message 16: by J.J. (new)

J.J. Alleson (goodreadscomjjalleson) | 106 comments Hi all, popped by to say hello, but I see lots of sad news trending. In the same position with a friend. He's had a full life, but it's never easy, is it? My best wishes and positive energy to all.

message 17: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Sorry to hear, J.J.. Prayers & blessings.

Been here a couple days. No need to hold off on the contest.

message 19: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy Lichtman | 410 comments Want to post my sympathy and regards to all as well.

message 20: by Greg (new)

Greg Krumrey (gkrumrey) | 327 comments Maybe a theme in the making: How does one say goodbye? To an immortal who gave up mortality, an elder living out the last days or any other situation when there is time (or not) to say what we may have thought we had forever to say.

Could technology intervene? Should it?

Almost everyone has experienced loss, for those of us who are older, it is inevitable. Sometimes writing about it helps, even in the form of a science fiction story.

(Not wanting to hijack the theme, so just an idea)

Jot Russell | 1709 comments Mod
Yeah, don't think we have done that yet.

message 22: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariannegpetrino) | 436 comments Haven't some done stories here about consciousness downloading in the past?

message 23: by Paula (new)

Paula | 1088 comments Just finished rereading Greenberg's classic novel The King's Persons, about the 1190 massacre at York, with that scene in the climax where they must consider whether/how goodbyes can be said / moment chosen in the looming mortality.
---Not to try to limit that theme to historical fiction, nor to downloads/technology, nor to . . . well, always a wide and major theme . . .
---Meanwhile, thinking of you and your close ones, Jot and Marianne and JJ.
