Shall we start suggestions for 52 subject list for next year? We could put the suggestions into a poll that members could vote for in November (before the holiday's rip us away from the computer)?

I've been thinking the same thing, and thought I was a bit nuts since it's only March - I'm glad I'm not the only one!I'm already having so much fun with this group, and I'd hate to see it end with 2015.
We can start suggestions here, so if someone has a brillant idea, it won't be lost :)
I agree with the poll in october or november, the list must be finished before the end of the year and december is not a good moment for this.
In 2016, I would like to explore more different genres, so it could be interesting to have some weeks with genres like we did for the romance week (historical book, steampunk...).

One suggestion from me would be "manga" which is similar to "graphic novel", but it is distinct enough to be different. :)
Yes! I'm enjoying this group so much. I suggest a book with a title that has more than five(?) words.Or a book with the villain as the "protagonist".
These are the suggestions I've come up with so far:A book set somewhere you love
A book set somewhere you've travelled
A book you've been putting off reading
The first book in a series
A book involving war
A book considered a 'classic'
A book considered a 'modern classic'
A book that's out of your comfort zone
A book in a genre you don't usually read
A book you could use as a doorstop (ie. 700+ pages)
A book that's less than 300 pages long
A book in the YA genre
A book on the Moden Library's 100 best novels list - http://www.modernlibrary.com/top-100/...
A book with a person's name in the title
A book written by an author of your nationality
A book about an animal
A book with a cover that drew you in
A dystopian novel
A classic children's book
A book by an author who uses initials in their name (eg. J.K. Rowling, F. Scott Fitzgerald)
A book with a long title
A book with a short title
A book of poetry
A book involving religion
A biography
A famous book
A Booker prize-winning book
An award-winning novel
An award-winning non-fiction book
"A book you could use as a doorstop" haha, this is a great description :D
I like the "person's name in the title" and the "initials" one :)
Some ideas:
A picture book (the ones for children)
A self-published book
A poetry book
A short story (under 100 pages)
A book out of the author's comfort zone (like a romance written by a fantasy writer)
A book written by an author born the same month (or year) as you
A book with a magical creature (give me some unicorns!)
A fairytale
A book you already read at least once (yes, I need this category a lot :p)
A book from a series (1st or sequel)
A book with an antihero

I'm absolutely in love with this topic! especially Jody's suggestion of a book you could use as a doorstop haha. I was thinking we could always do a topic of:
-books based on video games like the halo series or assasins creed.
-books with 2+ authors
-books with talking animals
At the beginning of the challenge I came across this group on goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...It's not based upon a year but there are definitely some interesting ones. I remember liking the one that involved reading a book set in every state.
I will be rather tempting to do the same challenge a second time considering I had more than one book for just about every week. But I'm sure I'll want to switch it up some.
I like a lot of the suggestions so far. Especially the short story one, there was a short story I have been wanting to read, but I wanted to fit the stuff I read into the challenge (not that I couldn't read it on the side :) ).
How about:-a book published the year you graduated.
If you haven't graduated quite yet, pick one from the year you graduated from elementary school or middle school :)
A book that is a satire would be fun.A book that is ancient (not to be confused with 'classic', I'm talking like The Iliad).
A book based on people from religious text (like The Red Tent)
A book with views you don't necessarily agree with
A novella
A book that was originally written for NaNoWriMo (hey, maybe I'll have mine done in time ;) )
I've already got a 40 point list of ideas for a challenge next year.I'll have to dig it out to share here. I really like some of the suggestions already posted.

Laura - I'm part of that group. I have a number of Challenges going. There are definitely some good ideas on there.
I'd really like to explore some less popular genres. How about:Gothic Romance
Slipstream/Interstices Fantasy
Steampunk
Medical Thriller
Young Adult Historical
Paranormal Mystery
I hope there are fantasy books with LGBT heroes :D
If we have a LGBT one, we need:
A book with a hero from a different ethnic group than yours (and no, elves are not included :p).

Oooo I like it! :DI have a feeling there are fantasy books with LGBT characters. At the very least I have seen SciFi ones. :)
I've been thinking about this for a while, I'm enjoying it and it's got me reading so much again but I'm thinking ahead and going 'what about next year?'.Some ideas:
- Finish a series you have already started
- A book that starts with the same initial as your name
- A book where the main character has the same name as you (not necessarily spelling because that would make it WAYYY too difficult)
- A book recommended to you by Goodreads
I was thinking that a Goodreads poll won't work as you can choose only one answer. A survey where you can order answers would be better. If someone has an idea on how to do this...
Megan > wow, the main character with the same name will be very difficult for some people (I won't have lots of choices, like The Sleeping Beauty and... maybe another book?). I like the idea but I'm not sure it's better than "a book... in your hometown" :)

Haha Zaz, it would be exactly like the hometown, some would find it really easy and some would find it hard and just settle for something close but that's all part of the challenge ;)
I love all of your ideas! You guys are also creative. One thing I would like to see next year is may be a book of themonth, it is kind of a bummer when your challenge book is not being read by anyone else, and you have no one to discuss it with.:-) Justin idea ;-) of course I'm not the one that has to do more work!
Berit, I know how you feel! I think that would be fun. Maybe we can set aside one week each month to read a book together. Maybe we can do polls for some of them and for others us mods can surprise y'all :D Definitely something to think about!
Lots of groups have a monthly book club, so it would be nice to have one. Maybe apart from the weekly challenge, because you know, there are these members who don't like to read in order and I'm pretty sure they won't like the "week together" :p
We can put a light week at the end of each month, so everyone will have enough time to read it or to catch-up with other books or side-reads.
I would enjoy something like one different genre each month.

I love the book of the month idea. Sometimes it would be nice for someone else to pick it out! Also how about a book centered around a career you would like to have?
A book based on a fairytale. A book by an author your age.
An author with your (first) name.
Great idea by the way. I'll add more if I think of any.
This post is great and even though we only are in March, it is a good idea to write down the ideas we have right now to avoid the risk of forgetting about them in the end of the year! Right now I don't have any idea, but I will definitely write them down when they come! Here are your suggestions that I really like:
- the book you could use as a doorstop (so funny)
- a person's name in the title. The reader's actual name could also be a fantastic idea, even though a bit difficult for some people
- base on Brittany's idea of a book based on a video game, we could also read a book based on a tv show or something like that. I was always curious about books based on Buffy or Supernatural but never dared to actually read any
- the non appealing book: I'm often put off by French books because their cover are often ugly, so that could be a good opportunity to read a French book.
Putting all this together is a lot of work so it is a great idea to start this sooner than later. The book of the month corresponding with a weekly rate is a great idea. Another idea, maybe we could have ongoing buddy reads throughout the year, for those of us who like to read with others.☺️
Wow, lots of ideas for next year. I love most of them. I honestly can't think of anything new to add. My favorite idea is a book written by an author of your nationality. I'm a mix between Norwegian and German so I think I could have some pretty interesting books to pick from, lol.
Great topic! I have also been creating a list of additional categories to cover in the future. I would love to push myself to read different genres, but this mini-list primarily focuses on different topics to further educate myself on. -sports based novel
-book involving religion (ideally different than your own)
-book related to your significant other's or family member's career
-book based around a medical condition (cancer, Alzheimer's, PTSD, depression)
-book involving an addiction
-book that takes place in college/university setting
-historical fiction- personally I would like to read novels involving different wars (American Revolution, American Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Iraq etc)
Another group I am apart of have come up with the Disney Challenge. Hopefully the link works.https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
You could use some of their ideas.

Those are really great ideas too. Thanks for sharing Nicole.
I quite liked the "a book at the bottom of your to read list" this year, as it a)shortened my to-read list and b)made me look back at lots of them on the list and want to read those as well, so maybe something like "a book half-way down your to-read list"...
I have never read a harlequin romance novel, but those are pretty prevalent. Maybe there should be "a Harlequin novel" or in that vein. Not exactly something I would read, but I feel as though this challenge is for things outside our comfort zone. :)
Berit wrote: "I love all of your ideas! You guys are also creative. One thing I would like to see next year is may be a book of themonth, it is kind of a bummer when your challenge book is not being read by anyo..."I half agree with this. I actually love the freedom of choosing any book that fits the category, whether or not someone else is reading it with me. It's the reason why I'm still in this group and quit my other groups. My other groups had "books of the month" and I couldn't really get into it.
But then it is kind of sad if no one's commenting on your thread. So I'd agree with this idea if it doesn't happen very often, like maybe once every two months. :) But that's just what I think.
I think we could do both, have the freedom of choice for those who like that. Then a book of the month for those who want to do that. Nothing would be mandatory. It would just give people more options:-)I don't think it would take away from the weekly open challenges.
I love most of the ideas here and no matter which ones will be chosen, next years challenge is going to be awesome. I'll add a few ideas too.- I'd definitely like to have some generic topics like this year (crime novel, maybe, thriller or so)
- A book from one of the (Must read lists) like the BBC list
- A meta book
- A book that has real person as a character (either living people or people from our history)
- A book that's number ? on your to-read list (maybe the number of the week?)
- A book that has a female main character, but was written by a man
- A book that was originally written in a minor language (a language that's not widely studied, which means not English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian and probably German and Italian)
- A controversial book (it's pretty much like the banned book category this year)
- A book writte before 1800
- A classic fairy-tales book (which basically means no Disney versions :))
- A book with a name of a place in the title (city, country...)
- A psychological book (novel or non-fiction, doesn't matter)
- A book that takes place on a continent other than Europe and North America
- A book where a major character dies
- A novel written by an expert in their field (meaning for example a historical novel by someone who has a degree in history; to give some names, someone like Kathy Reichs or Simon Montefiore)
I have 1 idea, a book with weather in the title. For instance,
The Art of Racing in the Rain
Anne of Windy Poplars
So the title of the book would have to have some type of weather term in it.
- An happy book (there are too much depressing books).
- A book from the 2015 challenge (I'm sure you added plenty of books because other members read them).
- A book nominated for the Goodreads Choice Awards.
What is a "meta book"?

How would the series work? Doing a series in a week would be tough... But given that different series have different number of volumes, some could do six weeks worth and some four for example. That would really throw out the rest of the year if people did different numbers.
For the series - it would be finishing a series. There are a few series where I am just missing the last book or the last two books.
By meta book do you mean a book where the author deliberately wants you to know that the book is a book and not real? So HHhH might be an example of that? Or perhaps it could be books about books/bookshops?There is a Paul Auster book (or two) where the author is a character in his own book. Can't for the life of me remember the name(s) but that would fit in as well perhaps.
Would be a real head scratcher to try and source!
