Cheryl (6of8) | 247 comments Hurrah! I literally did a fist pump when the notification popped up in my email that you had posted this! I get the impression that you might be a little frustrated with yourself for having so many of the same prompts each year. If it helps at all, this is the one reading challenge goal I manage to achieve every year and I find it incredibly helpful. I have actually cut down (a little) the size of Mt. TBR by trying to use the books I already have to satisfy the prompts. Can't wait to get started on planning for 2023!

Nope! Wrong! I found six prompts and one title I missed:
- A Victorian work with a Bildungsroman
- A Victorian work with chronic illness/disability rep
- A book with gods or godlike characters, or themes of religions, cults, or mythology
- A book with a colour in the title
- A book with spooky vibes
- Scroll through a social media feed and read the first book you own or have access to

- The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy

So, 80 prompts and 12 titles. I could take the "parallel reality" prompt off, since I've realized Piranesi counted for that last year, but I've already read one book this year that fills it, so I won't bother. Anyway, do with this information whatever you like. (I'll be updating the lists wherever they appear.)

message 5: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (6of8) | 247 comments Interesting additions! For instance, I am tempted to take you up on The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy -- but I might count it as Reread a favorite because this was one of my favorites of all the books I read in college.

message 6: by Mary (last edited Dec 29, 2023 03:10AM) (new)

Mary Arkless | 153 comments So, embarassingly, I'm only now making any kind of start. Here's my progress:
- A nonfiction book related to the word "border": "Beyond the Wall" by Katja Hoyer. It is a book about how East Germany came to be, and then followed the development of the country until its demise. It could conceivably also count as a book by an East European author as Hoyer was born in East Germany, but was just four when the wall fell.
- A book featuring a parallel reality: "Once Upon a River" by Diane Setterfield. The author begins by saying it is an alternative reality. She also quite charming at the end of the book tells the reader it is time they returned to their own.
- A book with a scripted font for the title: "The Thursday Murder Club" by Ricard Osman
- A book by an Eastern European author "Atoms and Ashes" by Serhii Plokhy. It could also be counted towards a book about history and a book relating to "secret". It is about six major nuclear accidents, and save Fukushima, there was quite an attempt to keep a lot of secrets about each of these accidents. The Kyshtym accident in the Soviet Union was successfully kept a secret for 30 years!
- A 5-star prediction "The Book of Lost Names" by Kristin Harmel This was praised by several people in a group I'm in, so I decided to read it. I expected it to be great, since so many people enjoyed it. I hadn't read anything by Harmel before, but it seems she's written several best sellers. This novel is set in WWII France and is about the forgers who helped many escape the Nazis, although there are a couple of chapters set in 2005.

Well, the Goodreads PTBs have seen fit to delete all but a handful of the threads I posted for individual prompts. They've been deleting a bunch of stuff randomly in other groups, too. Or maybe their servers are just that unstable. Anyway, I am not going to re-post all those threads at this point. If you have any questions about prompts, we can discuss them here.
