Mickey 7. What happens when a replacement clone is made prematurely? Fun but also insightful on possible clone issues.
This one may have been suggested before, because I can’t remember where I first heard about it and this seems like a likely place… The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, by Theodora Goss. It looks like it’s got history, adventure, and a kick-ass main character…so some similarities to other books we’ve enjoyed.
I'd like to suggest The Genesis of Misery. I picked it up from The Strand when I was there, and it looks fascinating! It's a retelling of Joan of Arc, but in space with giant mecha. Some blurbs are describing it as queer Joan of arc meets Gdeon the Ninth with Pacific Rim thrown in, which just sounds fun to me.
I'd second both The Genesis of Misery and A Memory Called Empire. I've been meaning to read both of them.
People seemed interested in The Lions of Al-Rassan last time, so I'll throw that back into the ring. Guy Gavriel Kay is one of my all-time favorites and I always want to get as many people as possible to read him.
I really loved A Memory Called Empire.
I really loved A Memory Called Empire.
I haven't heard of any of the suggested titles above before and they all sound neat. It looks like I can get A Memory Called Empire from the library and The Lions of Al-Rassan on Scribd, so I'd be partial to those.
I have read a Memory Called Empire and enjoyed it a lot, I also read The Strange Case of The Alchemists Daughter and enjoyed. That doesn’t mean not to pick either! If anything it it just means I get questions up faster because I don’t have to wait for a library hold and to read it 😂

This is the thread to select the next book to read in January 2023. Standard rules apply:
Please make sure you give a sentence or two why you think we should read it together, not just a list of books you're planning on reading.
If a book is recommended that you also want to recommend, you can mention it again to add support. If there's a bunch of titles, I'll just pick the ones that seem to have the most interest in the poll, if there's just a few i"ll pull them all.
This is a new selection round, so if you want to suggest a book you've suggested before, put it here again to be considered, I won't be going back to past suggestion posts.
Happy reading everyone!
