B Ryan | 2 comments Hi. I'm Brandy and am new to this forum.

I'm a slow but dedicated reader who also likes to cross stitch (yeah a lost craft), walk (almost a 1000 miles this year) and weight lift.

message 104: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11288 comments Welcome to the group, Brandy! I used to do cross stitch years ago. I recently found a project I finished when my oldest daughter was 3 (she is 25 now) and was thinking that it would look nice in our bathroom. I plan to frame it or something like that. It is something I will do again when I have more time. Same as knitting.

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Hi Brandy. Welcome to our group. I have a couple of unflinished projects that I intend to finish. You know what they say about intentions.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Welcome Brandy!

I've been walking/plodding a lot this year, and have done some lifting in the past. My mum is an incredible embroider, although she does everything except cross stich. I just have an appreciation of how much work all embroidering hobbies take! We have a lot of walkers/runners/crafters in this group, so you will fit right in.

Sounds like you must be an audiobook fan from those hobbies.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11288 comments Welcome, Kathryn! You will not solve your book-buying problem here, since we are enablers. Your problem might get worse! But you will certainly find encouragement to read with all the challenges, themed reads, topplers, or just other members willing to discuss, comment or buddy read with you. :)

message 110: by Kirila (new)

Kirila | 660 comments Hi. I am Kirila and have been a member of YLTO for quite a while but the last time I was active here was sometime in 2018... life happened and slowed down my reading. I blame my husband (joking) as my reading decreased around the time he proposed. I guess the wedding planning kept me busy. There was traveling as well afterwards (wedding was in 2019) and then Covid happened. You would have thought I would pick up reading again then but somehow I didn't. Found other new hobbies, enjoyed a new place we just moved to. And then I got pregnant and that took whatever remaining free time I had. Now I have a wonderful two and half year old who drives me crazy but also melts my heart. He loves books too :) and I cannot wait for him to start listening to stories (currently we are at picture books) so I have an excuse for reading some new and old children's' gems.

Recently I somehow found some time and read a few good books that got me rolling and I found myself scrolling through this group as well. Janice's next year challenge caught my attention and I started gophering. And I remembered the joy all of this brought to me in the past :).

And when I say I slowed down reading, I don't mean that I stopped reading altogether. I used to read around 40 books per year and the last years this dropped to around 20. So I still read, but fall into the dreaded reading slump more often when life takes over.

So here I am again, hoping that re-introducing myself will take me out of the shadows and motivate me to join the discussions here, while discovering new books.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Kirila! And here it was me thinking it was the flammkuchen ;)
(Kirila, Lexx, and I met up when we were in Zurich in 2017 and had German pizza which is called flammkuchen)

So lovely to hear from you, and what a massive few years for you! Glad you're well and life happened and was great! Wonderful you have a little reader around, and here is to having more time for you again. We are always here to help and enable :D

Was literally thinking about you the other day when I found a book we bought in Zurich. Spidey senses.

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Rusalka wrote: "Kirila! And here it was me thinking it was the flammkuchen ;)."

When we were in Germany, we thought Pferrer was Pepperoni. We were surprised to get a pizza with banana peppers on it, and no pepperoni in sight.

message 121: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19219 comments Oh that's a difference!

I also had to laugh as I then had to translate banana peppers, so another layer of not understanding what is going on.

message 122: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60012 comments Oops, I see I made a spelling mistake. Pfeffer is the correct spelling.

Hi all,

My name is Anna, I live in the south east of England with my husband and our two cats, Milo & Lexi. I've always classed myself as a reader but must admit the act of reading seems to be happening less and less. I love a good thriller/suspense novel but happy to try any genre.

message 135: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11288 comments Welcome to the group, Anna! It gets hard to find time or focus to read sometimes, and joining a group for support is a great idea. :)

message 136: by Margo (new)

message 137: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Hope we give you some incentives to pick up a book a bit more! Lots of thriller/suspense lovers here too.

message 138: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19223 comments Welcome, Anna! I've also always considered myself a reader. However, at some point when my children were young, I realized that the book I was reading had been sitting on my nightstand for over a year and I had to admit that I was reading very little. I eventually joined Goodreads and ended up reading more than ever. I hope you are likewise encouraged by being here.

I will read just about anything as long as I'm in the mood for it and it's written well. I've been challenging myself lately to read more out of my comfort zone of mysteries. I look forward to participating here more!
