Currently reading? Just finished? 2023

reading nonfiction right now, just starting Fear Is Just a Word: A Missing Daughter, a Violent Cartel, and a Mother's Quest for Vengeance by Azam Ahmed. In this book, a woman spends years tracking down the Zeta cartel members who kidnapped and then killed her daughter, despite all of the ransom money her family paid. So far so good, and if I wasn't baking today, I'd probably finish it. Night-time reading is The Meiji Guillotine Murders -- verdict is still out on that one. Not Pushkin Vertigo's usual Japanese fare. I've also preordered two forthcoming Pushkin Vertigo Japanese mysteries: The Little Sparrow Murders which brings back detective Kosuke Kindaichi and The Labyrinth House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji. On the stranger side of things, I'll be starting Circles of Stone: Weird Tales of Pagan Sites and Ancient Rites (ed. Katy Soar) from the British Library Tales of the Weird Series.

Finally had time to finish reading Fear Is Just a Word: A Missing Daughter, a Violent Cartel, and a Mother's Quest for Vengeance. It actually goes beyond her "quest for vengeance," as she becomes an activist/advocate for families of the disappeared in her area of Mexico. Nicely done.

It is a 5 star inspiring story. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I read the synopsis, and this sounds like a wonderful diversion!

I have been picking up the 30th anniversary hardcover editions of the series as they have been released this year.

I'm probably one of the few guys who has skipped watching the TV adaptations of Connelly's works and sticks to reading the hardcover editions instead.

I loved Prophet Song. It is rare that a novel can make me cry, but that one did. So good!!!
