Dead and Gone
was my least favorite of the Annalisa Vega series. But it’s still good. My 3.5. Star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
read The Watchmaker from Auschwitz by Sergiu Someşan It is historical fiction and I rated it 4 stars. My review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Flesh Wounds
by John LawtonInspector Troy #5. FYI publishing dates of books in the series does not match the actions within. London, 1959 (mostly) in which Troy is at war with a pair of bloodthirsty twin villains. Wonderfully done but the action moves back and forth in time so one should pay attention. Another fine entry in an exceptional series, part mystery and part thriller. 4 stars.
Tom Lake
by Ann PatchettWhen a family with grown children comes together during Covid lockdown, the mother tells the story of her abbreviated acting career and her long ago romance with a Hollywood superstar.
Ann Patchett is great with characterization. 3.5 stars

Silver Nitrate
by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Very good ghost/horror story set in 1990s Mexico City, involving an unfinished horror film, the director who wants to complete it, the cult that wants it completed, sorcerers, molten devil dogs, and a couple of film buffs in over their heads.

Twas The Bite Before Christmas
is a fun addition to the series. My four star review:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Now starting A COOL BREEZE ON THE UNDERGROUND by Don Winslow. This is the new 30th anniversary hardcover reprint of Winslow’s first novel, which was initially published way back in 1991. It earned nominations for both the Edgar Award and Shamus Award as Best First Mystery Novel and was followed by four more novels in the series featuring former street kid and now grad student / private sleuth Neal Carey.Winslow is one of my favorite authors and I only discovered him a few years ago, so I am glad to see that his first series is being reprinted, as the word on the street is that he is going to retire once he finishes his final book in his City trilogy.
Almost everyone, whether they're aware of it or not, has heard music by Mozart. This children's introduction by Mª Isabel Sánchez Vegara is another in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series. He was an amazing child prodigy.
My review of Mozart with several illustrations
The Caretaker, by Aussie author Gabriel Bergmoser, is a tense thriller about a woman who is hiding out alone on a snowy mountaintop.
My review of The Caretaker

Now starting THE LONGMIRE DEFENSE by Craig Johnson, the newest hardcover release in his ongoing Walt Longmire series set in modern day Wyoming.
James wrote: "...Winslow is one of my favorite authors and I only discovered him a few years ago, so I am glad to see that his first series is being reprinted, as the word on the street is that he is going to retire once he finishes his final book in his City trilogy."I really like his work too, James. I hate to see him retire. He wrote some books in German and I would love it if those were translated into English someday.
Winslow does a lot of political commentating on Twitter so if you like that sort of thing he's a good follow. Also, if you like audiobooks, he published some short stories on Audible that are free with the monthly paid membership (I forget what they call it these days).
The Beautiful and the Wild
by Peggy TownsendIn this thriller, a woman and her young son are trapped in Alaska with a husband/father who doesn't want to live by society's rules. Alaska is a great setting for this kind of story.
For fans of adventure stories. 3.5 stars

Magic Shifts by Ilona AndrewsA "HEA" is hard to come by in post-apocalyptic Atlanta.
My review -- https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Princess Diana may have been the last truly shining light in the British royal family. Children's author Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara doesn't shy away from the divorce and bulimia - unusual for a children's picture book - but focuses on her well-known kindness to all.
My review of Princess Diana with several illustrations and a bit of a whinge
RJ - Slayer of Trolls wrote: "James wrote: "...Winslow is one of my favorite authors and I only discovered him a few years ago, so I am glad to see that his first series is being reprinted, as the word on the street is that he ..."-----------------------------------------
I have read most of Winslow's stuff minus his Neal Carey series which is being reprinted for the 30th anniversary of its release. I'm not much for audiobooks but I think that if some of his novels (The Force and the Cartel trilogy) get translated into feature films that his publishers will come out with print versions of his audio stuff PDQ.
While I am sorry to hear that he is hanging it up as a writer, I hope (given his comments on social media) that he will maybe run for office in the near future. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
