Cristina | 2 comments I read this book between 2007-2009, I very distinctly remember that the main character was a dancer, probably a ballerina, and her training schedule was so serious that couldn't have sleepovers with her non-dancer friend on Friday nights due to Saturday morning classes. Near the end of the book (maybe middle?) it comes out that there was some sort of abuse that was happening or had happened to her. The cover was light blue and I believe there was a girl with blonde/white hair on it as well. I also swore up and down that the word "Winter" was in the title but google gave me nothing familiar.

Rainbowheart's suggestion of The Melting Season by Celeste Conway looks very promising.

Google Books preview:

Quote from the book:
"What is it then? I know it can't be your ballet class."
"Classes," I said. "There are three of them. And because of that - I know it sounds insane to you, but I'm not allowed out on Friday night. I have to, you know, sleep."
He looked at me blankly. "That's totally lame."
"I know it is, and like I told you the other day, I'm working on my mother - I am."

Kirkus Review:
Giselle, daughter of a world-famous ballerina and a dancer in her own right, struggles to reconcile memories of her late father with her current reality. To keep her world in order, Giselle keeps a busy schedule between attending a respected school for the arts in New York City and training as a ballerina on the weekends under her mother’s strict tutelage. After meeting Will, a sensitive and empathetic boy from the suburbs, Giselle’s firm yet tenuous grasp on her life begins to loosen as he challenges her to let go of the past. Clear but disturbing memories of her father’s illness begin to surface as she realizes some long-buried truths about her childhood ...
