Isabel (kittiwake) | 67 comments Venomous Lumpsucker by Ned Beauman sounds like my sort of book. I’ve looked at Ned Beauman books in the bookshop before as they always look interesting, but I’ve not got round to reading any. I’ll add it to my list.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

Claesbj | 1 comments Managed to read just 3 books within a very broad definition of science fiction in 2022, the two just in December.

3rd place was a little disappointing Peter Clines "14", a steam-punk novel. To me it had no moral or eureka purpose - no points the author tried to make.

Much better on 2nd place Danish author Maren Uthaug "11%" , the intertwined stories of 5 characters in a dystopian future Denmark where the premise is that all men (in total just 11% of the population) are kept locked up, medicated, in facilities for women to visit if they want to have sex or mate with. Witchcraft, Christianity with a female origin, crumbling cities, and true freedom for women tells this rather grotesque story in a great way.

1st place is a re-read og Alan Dean Foster "Midworld". Rediscovering this story maybe 20 years after my last read was really wonderful. The thoughts and points behind the book is found only in a handful of pages and is delivered in the very beginning and very end. The rest of the book is almost boring. As a whole though it still makes it quite far up my all time favorite science fiction book list. And with Avatar the movie in mind it's makes it even more fun to read now.

Sea of Tranquility

The Thousand Earths

UnHappenings

Love the podcast. I especially like hearing the reviews of books I've read and getting different points of view. A great example of this was my 2021 favorite - Project Hail Mary. Yikes!
