I've done a quick skim of the the ya books set in ireland and I didn't see any cover that resembles the book and I didn't see anything in the little red riding hood one. It wasn't a children's book.
I think it could have been a retelling though.
I got it out of the library so I might be able to search the horror/thriller/fantasy archives online to see if they still have it, but I don't know if they will. Please keep the suggestions coming!
The girl goes to visit her Grandma even though her mum doesn't want her to. I think her Grandma lives away from the main town an, which it may have been a foresty area. When she arrives at her Grandma's cottage she find out that her Grandma has died and she nor her mother ever knew about this. She finds a homeless man (He may have been named Stig) a couple of years older than her living in the house since it was abandoned and she allows him to stay.
From here my memory gets patchy, but I do remember a few things even though they are vague. At the some point in the book the demon dog comes out of the tree and kills some neighbours who live near to her Grandma's cottage. These people were nice to the girl and I think they tried helping her at some point. I think the girl fell off the tree when she was younger and hurt her head when she was younger and i'm pretty sure it left a scar. I think she formed some sort of connection with the demon dog when this happened and maybe unlocked some king of power. If I'm remembering right it was a generational power that her grandma also had which is why her mum moved the girl and herself to England and cut off contact with the grandma because she was protecting the girl.
I would be very grateful for any help in finding the name of this book. Please give me any book names that bare even a small resemblance to the stuff I remember above.
