The Perks Of Being A Book Addict discussion
ARCHIVE Team Challenge: UNO 2023
>
Team Ground Pangolin
I've owned this short book for years and haven't read it because it is only 144 pages and I need 150 pages for my other challenges.
I think I'm going to read it now as it should work with red cover and I can finish it on the 1st to count for UNO but without setting my other March challenge back too far at all. Yay!
It looks like the only unfinished mini challenge book is Circe. I see open cards for a 2 and a 1. Someone probably finished a mini challenge book since Veronica's last post. I have a couple books that I can finish last minute if needed. Otherwise I'll save them for tomorrow.
I don't see a countdown or a time for when we have to have the spreadsheet updated and what time zone we go by. I'm thinking it goes by UTC again which means we have about 3 hours. Do we need any last minute books finished?
I don't have a gods book partially read but I can finish the last little bit of a book that works for 2 if you want. I saved the last chapter for tomorrow morning.
Mary C wrote: "I don't have a gods book partially read but I can finish the last little bit of a book that works for 2 if you want. I saved the last chapter for tomorrow morning."Or maybe for some other task with pixie book, Just in case, there is a pixie for gods.
Did Hannah finish Circe? I saw that she was logged into the spreadsheet so i assumed she was going to mark it finished. But it's not marked finished.
I finished Murder at the North Pond because I had the last amount left on it. Works for North in title, bird on cover and tree/wooden object on cover
I don't have editing access to the official spreadsheet. But it put it into the working one as far as an UNO card.
I'm not sure. If it's going by UTC time than it ended already. Usually games like this give time for updating the spreadsheets for like the next day. But I couldn't find the information. I don't know what to do with the mini challenge. The book I read doesn't seem to be a good swap with any of the UNO Pixie books.
Also I will not be mad or anything if Hannah did finish the book and just hasn't been able to mark it read yet but gets on before the sheets are locked. I'd rather the team go for the most point options.
I just reread her, and it looks like she was very confident she could finish it in time so I'm not going to binge
I just checked my last extra book that wasn't for the mini and works for one of the pixies, so I'll move them and we'll complete it. Yes, we have 24 hours after to update the spreadsheets.
We made it!Fortunately my book worked for the 4 in the publication date, and that task had a pixie book, so I moved the pixie to the gods one which was also Circe. One of Mary's books helped with the card left by the moved pixie, Circe didn't work for a 9.
Hannah, no worries, we were just getting nervous, hehe. I need to check everything once more, but the official spreadsheet it's updated. It seems we might have ended up in third place this round.
So...March it's gonna be a hoot. Ten Reverses, eleven 5's. Let's do this!
I will always comment here if I will not be able to complete something that I committed to. I usually update the spreadsheet at work because I have a desk job, so I was planning to update it tomorrow. I did not realize there was a time limit to update the sheet.
Hannah wrote: "I will always comment here if I will not be able to complete something that I committed to. I usually update the spreadsheet at work because I have a desk job, so I was planning to update it tomorr..."Yeah, they lock them so we can't edit when the time is up.
What is the time limit? So that I know for the end of the next 2 months. I crammed it in this evening to ensure it was done before the end of the month, but we were able to complete everything without it, so I almost wish I had waited to complete it tomorrow so that it could go towards a March card. I'm not sure if I missed that there was a time limit or if it wasn't communicated, but I would just love to avoid this scenario going forward.

Yes I guess if you knew we could've used it for later, sorry 😬. For march lets have everything updated by the 31st and I'll post the countdown for the next month as a reference.
We’ll now we know we have 24 hours to update the spreadsheet. But it doesn’t hurt to have a couple extra books finished in case real life keeps someone from finishing or getting online to update.
I wish they had posted the countdown clock earlier. I thought the round ended yesterday at what was 7pm my time. But it really ended 4 am this morning my time. Now I know for next time: 4 am my time on the 1st.
Great job with February, everyone! That's a lot of 5s for March and I feel like searching for books for a certain number can be pretty time consumi.ng unless you find something with that letter title or author. It looks like we're already off to a great start with what we need on the spreadsheet though. I put my first reads and the books I know I'll read for book club on there so far. I have a few others that I could pick from for colored cards or reverses when I finish those... or to work with the mini.
At the end I used Hannah's Circe for the gods task, because I almost messed up. In the second check I did I realized I had already used Circe for another task, the warrior one. But everything is correct now, ops! and phew! Double checking is really important 🫣🤭.
I just finished book for #5 and started
which works for Red 1, Red 2 or Skip Red as well as 6 and 8.
I fly home from Oklahoma tomorrow. I didn’t get much book time. But I’ll make up for it when I get back.
We are going up to our house in Michigan for a relaxing weekend from Friday to Sunday and I typically do a lot of reading there. I need to plan my next reads so I can be sure to pack them. Was thinking I'd aim for some reverses. Has anyone read any of the following books:-The Giver of Stars - Jojo Moyes
-Someone Else's Shoes - Jojo Moyes
-The Great Alone - Kristen Hannah
-When We Were Bright and Beautiful - Jillian Medoff
-All the Dangerous Things - Stacey Willingham
-Queen of Thieves - Beezy Marsh
-River Sing Me Home - Eleanor Shearer
-Before I Let Go - Kennedy Ryan
Seems like a few of us are either coming and going with vacations. I am headed to New Orleans tomorrow so not sure how much reading I will get done. But have already finished a few books this month. Have been very into mood reading and picking up whatever hits me. Check in when I am back. Hannah- I have read The Giver of Stars, The Great Alone (loved that book!), and All the Dangerous Things.
Ashley, where abouts in Michigan is your house?? sounds amazing. we're supposed to get snow Friday (100% chance ugh) so it should be gorgeous. I have Before I Let Go on my TBR. I'll read it this month so we can use it as a reverse :) I'll read it after I finish this batch
It's my husband's grandparent's house in Escanaba. His grandparents are in an assisted living home now, so we go up and stay at the house and visit with them. His parents go just about every week to take care of the house and visit, but we go probably once a quarter. It's on a river too, so it's gorgeous. And yes, it's supposed to snow on Friday and Sunday when we are travelling, haha! We have great timing *eye roll* lol
Hello everyone!I wish I could say my slow reading this month is a product of some fun travel but It's been chaotic for me lately, between home remodeling with a lot of issues, and a rescue of a pretty beat-up puppy, which is a handful. But hopefully next week I can pick up the pace.
The mini is here!

Please take a look so we can start preparing for it. Let me know if you have any questions.
*** UPDATE ***
We are at 30% in the main, kind of low for almost the middle of the month, but I'm sure we'll make up for it.
We only got two WD4 this month and they are covered, so we have to focus on the color cards without repeating, since reverses are getting behind.
COLOR CARDS pending:
2 Red
3 Red
5 Green
1 Blue
Skip Yellow
5 Yellow
6 Yellow
I'm on Red 3 right now.
We're doing pretty good on the 5's and 7's but reverses are still an issue, we need 8 more, just too many. I have three on my to-read list which are totally doable. Please check the compare books section with each of the team members, maybe you find something that strikes your fancy.
I'm about halfway through Shades of Sunshine which will work for either yellow 6 or yellow skip and I just started Confessions on the 7:45 this morning which will work for a reverse. We are dealing with a stomach bug at our house, so that's been super fun. I think we're through the worst of it now. I plan to read Black Cake next which will also work for a reverse.I should be able to complete 1-2 books in addition to those mentioned in this post. I'm not sure what they'll be yet but hopefully they can fill in some gaps. Flowers for Algernon is a good possibility. My copy has a red cover like this
so maybe it could work for something there. If not, it could also be a reverse I think. This mini looks a little tricky at first glance, or maybe just requires a bit of brain power to be creative... which I honestly just don't have at this moment.
Ashley wrote: "I'm about halfway through Shades of Sunshine which will work for either yellow 6 or yellow skip and I just started Confessions on the 7:45 this morning which will work for a reverse. We are dealing..."Yeah a little bit tricky, but you can definitely stick to colors and locations for those possible extra reads.
I was feeling like I was in a weird reading slump but found a book I'm really enjoying so I'll hopefully get back on track and be able to keep on keeping on
For the mini, the animals that change colors like the chameleon or cephalopod, do we pick a book with a cover that is one of the colors they can be... or could we chose a book with several colors on it?
I finishing up two books right now. Just got back from vacation so didn't get much reading done but hopefully can pick up so better reads to keep me going. This March mini is a bit challenging with the characteristic part of the animal with the challenge.
One of the books I am reading The Theory of (Not Quite) Everything says the author grew up in South Africa so I think that should work for the Chameleon location. So I won't finish that until the 15th.
I am going to have to start looking for some books to work for this challenge and some reverses maybe.

I've got a few colored covers and reverses set aside to possibly read for March so I'll look at those and develop a tentative plan.
