Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments I read 2 books which covered the martial arts extra task. Both are already in Mini sections but one Drop Shot covered 'trees on the cover' which would be pretty easy to find and Year of the Fox did east/ eastern which would also be fairly easy I think. Year of the Fox also is an 'animal constellation title -- Vulpus or Fox.

So if we can replace trees on cover and east /eastern in text we have 2 Extras covered. I have quite a few short books I can check for those things or someone may have something on the go.

Jackie | 338 comments I got the tiger task covered.

New Orleans count as south?

Also, I will finish Haunting Adeline then for the mini :)

message 154: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Double-checking:

Do books we use for the mini also need to be in the regular month? That is, do they have to fit both a specific card and a task? Or can we just read for the mini?

message 155: by Mary (new)

Mary Hangen | 376 comments just mini is fine

The words have to be in the text, title or series title.

Okay then. That helps.

Depending on how other things go, I can cover constellations and royalty for the mini.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Would Frankenstein’s monster count as an alien species?

message 160: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Hmmm, let me check on that for you

message 161: by Kylie (last edited Feb 23, 2023 07:38PM) (new)

I went to the captain's group and the consensus seems to be that since he was created on Earth, he is not alien

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Thanks to a raid on our local and brilliant secondhand bookshop I filled the final slot in the regular hands. Wild 4 duplicating Blue 6 CLN Sabatino. I'll easily finish it in time.
Cosi Fan Tutti (Aurelio Zen, #5) by Michael Dibdin

message 165: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Oh and I also picked up a Harlen Coben which will cover the Martial arts in the Extras. If we need it I’ll push to finish it in time or it may fit a green cover slot for March. Don’t know the characters yet.

message 166: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Boy, that is a lot of colored cards this month. I'll start going through my upcoming reads to see what fits the colors first.

a Contradiction | 26 comments Hello all!
Hope you all are doing well.

I apologise for being MIA.

Had a few hectic weeks - and hence couldn't post. It's like a year's worth of activities are to be done in a month or so.

I haven't been able to update the books I've read -

The Maid - By Nita Prose
Stuck with You - By Ali Hazelwood

Haven't updated the same on the worksheet or Goodreads. Will update the same by EOD tomorrow.

Also, I have just seen March's cards. Will also slot in books.

Apologies again.

I think we’re going to make it! I just finished my last regular mini and regular February book, so I’ll start on the bonus. I’m reading those for other challenges, so if we don’t use them, it’s no big deal to me.

One of those books is The Night Visitor. Fantastic! Twisty, academia/feminism, well-written, unreliable narrators—basically all my favorite things. Even though I hate bugs, I loved this.

Dung beetles 🪲 are a major plot point. I’m imagining a mashup of this and Boyfriend Material!

Please don’t apologize for having a busy month. I think this is a great team. We’re all reading and chatting, and that’s what I’m here for. I have so many good reads for this challenge already!

Exactly what Kirsten said! Do not apologize! This is for fun most of all!! Life (including work) and your mental health are super important so always keep those a priority!

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Done! Finished my last book for the mini.

message 176: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Incredible work everyone!

I will finish my last book of the month by tonight or tomorrow, which will complete the main mini tasks. I think we have one more book that needs to be read by Mary on the main sheet and 2 extra mini tasks books, and then we will have successfully completed the entire first month of UNO! :)

message 177: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments YAY! LET'S GO EVERYONE! WE ARE DOING AMAZING!

message 178: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments I will finish mine by tonight as well.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Wow, what a great job!

Re reading speeds. Every team I've been on has a mix of reading speeds and every year the readers who manage one or two books feel guilty which is completely unnecessary. Every book added to the sheet helps the team and means one book fewer for someone else to cover.

Thanks for this comment. I'm loving UNO for the way it sets up the teams so that there's a mix of big and little readers. I'm thrilled that we completed all our hands and the mini and the mini bonus. But even if we didn't, I'm loving this challenge.

Also, bc UNO, I read 7 4+ star books (my average rating is 3.36) and 11 not-MM books this month.

Yay us!

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Jackie wrote: "When does February end and March begin?"

March starts on Wednesday March 1, 2023 at 9am UTC time!

message 184: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Hello everyone! March is officially upon us, which means it's time to tackle another month of UNO!

We have successfully completed all of our cards for February and we were also able to complete all of the mini-tasks for February. GO TEAM!

Let's keep up the amazing work heading into the second month :)

message 185: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany Santiago | 115 comments WHOOOP WHOOP! Go everyone!! Great job!

So excited to take on another month with ya'll!

message 186: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Does anyone mind if I hide the February books on the book tracking tab? Then we can scroll less.

message 187: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments Okay with me.

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Yes please.

Nikki the Sapphired Book Dragon AKA NixieNut (sapphireddragon) | 311 comments just a quick check in as I know i have been quiet - Life's been a little chaotic lately. Got one book read so far for March ( which i will put on the tracking tab shortlt and about three on the go. Looking to get two of them done this week. I will update tracking spreadsheet as soon as I can

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments When I entered my Wild 4 red cover book as read in Hand 1 on the sheet it came up as 30 points but Kylie's red cover book came up as 25. Is that right? Seems odd to me.

message 191: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments My 8 green book isn't getting points. Error on the cell.

message 192: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments I have to edit colored cards manually. Don’t worry about it for now :)

message 193: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 338 comments No problem, thanks!

message 194: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Should have known you'd have it covered, Kylie.

message 195: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Standley | 83 comments Haha i’m trying this month! Got bombarded by tons of school this past week but i should have time this weekend to go over the spreadsheet!

I think it’s green.

message 198: by Mary (new)

Mary Hangen | 376 comments definitely green.

hows everyone doing? enjoying their books?

message 199: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten | 268 comments Eh... I'm doing some heavy reading to finish another challenge and so I've read a few things that have been languishing on my TBR for awhile. BUT I love Samantha Wayland's hockey books and I re-read 2 old ones in order to read her latest and they were all excellent.

Also, Nikki, thanks for catching my inability to distinguish between Hs and Fs, or between 3s and 4s. I combed through my books for Hand 3 and was able to see that one of the MCs agent (in several scenes) has a last name and that last name is Fernandez, so I didn't have to mess up that whole (finished!) hand, including the draw 2. Pheww... I took the other book out (which I hadn't yet started).

message 200: by Elisabeth (new)

Elisabeth Rose (elisabethrose) | 949 comments Has anyone read Ishmael? It was an interesting discussion about how homo sapiens have systematically gone about conquering and plundering nature thus causing our own inevitable destruction through overpopulation outstripping resources. I had a few issues with some of his points but it made for uncomfortable reading. Came out in 1992.

I’m enjoying my current book, The Book Thief. It’s one I’ve wanted to read since I saw the movie ages ago. It’s 580 pages so will take a while to get through but isn’t heavy going style wise. I like Australian author Markus Zusak as a writer. Read his Bridge of Clay last year and really liked it.
