With the crazy week we had, I guess it was bound to happen.
At least nobody went out wearing pajamas.. or no shoes. It was a close call some days.
Sonia wrote: "At least nobody went out wearing pajamas.. or no shoes. It was a close call some days."I have those days too from time to time... When my boiler broke down a month or so ago, I took to wearing my dressing gown over my clothes. I stepped out the door more than once still wearing it :D :D
First lot of books are planned, team friend requests sent out, and have been waiting very patiently (for me, lol) for the team thread to open.Unfortunately I now have to go out for the afternoon. Stoopid appointments! :(
Melindam wrote: "oooh, how cute is that!!!!"SO cute! though the original animals make it hard not to make a cute toy!
I see groups opening up little by little and it makes the anticipation even more exciting! Although my team isn't open yet, I've been sneak-peeking at other teams' groups and realizing I still have lots to learn about the rules, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it after a bit of playing and watching others play. So excited to be a part of this! Looking forward to meet my fellow team members.
Violeta when you start reading for cards, it will fall into place quite quickly. And if you have questions, captains and veteran team members can explain. :)
Melindam wrote: "Violeta when you start reading for cards, it will fall into place quite quickly. And if you have questions, captains and veteran team members can explain. :)"Thanks Melindam! I am sure it will all feel less overwhelming as soon as things get rolling. Just happy to be here. I hadn't read much in a long time, and am about to finish my second book in 2023, which is already and accomplishment for someone busy as I am! Looking forward to that extra push to read even more!

I’m the same. Haha I’ve added lots of books for the colours otherwise unsure whether to do anything else as my group isn’t opened yet. I assume that’s due to not everyone having a shelf?
It depends on how busy captains are in real life as well as the time zone difference to get things organised before they are ready for opening. It may take a few days even, but we are getting there. :)

No Kat! Only one of the options is needed!
I think I’m getting it now, the only thing I’m unsure of is how wild works? Where does the information come from
@KatNo. Each team has a set of cards (visible on team sheets) e.g. 9 or 7...
1 card = 1 book and only 1 condition needs to be met. If you have a speaking character called Victoria, that's enough to cover that card.
Kat wrote: "I think I’m getting it now, the only thing I’m unsure of is how wild works? Where does the information come from"A Wild lets you duplicate a card in your Hand. So... say your hand looks like this:
3
1
Wild
7
4
1
8 Red
For the Wild, you can choose to read for the 3, 1, 7, etc... does that make sense?

I have a shelf, but I don't have anything on it, as I thought I was supposed to add books as I finished them? See... I'm a bit lost.

You add books to your Uno shelf as you finish them, so it should be empty right now. :)
What Laura said. :)The challenge starts on 1 February 9 am utc. Only books started after that will count toward the challenge.
Knowing Sammy she already has a SS full of planned books. And some piles hanging around for surprises.
Sonia wrote: "Knowing Sammy she already has a SS full of planned books. And some piles hanging around for surprises."She's probably not the only one ;-)

Thanks for information on wild card I think I get it now.

Phew ! I don’t read that fast

Ah that makes sense didn’t think of time zones. It’s my first time doing this so I’m looking forward to it
Kat wrote: "Opps. Thought you had to add books so captain could see what books you wanted to read for the colour cards? Or prompts?"First you need to see what colour cards your team got for February. Then you can check with your captain and team mates, if you have (a) books that could cover any of the options.
Example:
Your team gets a 2 Red card and you happen to have
. it is more than 50% red for sure, plus the title starts with T, so bingo. It works. But you only have a few colour covers, the rest just need to have the right letters to correspond with the number of the card.
Kat wrote: Phew ! I don’t read that fast"You don't need to. :) Teams are a mix of slower readers as well as faster ones and put together so that together they can cover the hands of cards given out for each month.
One thing I’m still confused about, as an avid non-reading regular card game UNO player, is why do some cards seem to be just numbers and some a number and a color? Don’t all UNO cards have a number and a color? Sorry if I’m being plain dumb here, just wanna make sure I’m not misunderstanding things!

Jenny thank you....splash pad for nacho cheese....love it!!!
Violeta wrote: "One thing I’m still confused about, as an avid non-reading regular card game UNO player, is why do some cards seem to be just numbers and some a number and a color? Don’t all UNO cards have a number and a color?"In the card game, yes. But not in our bookish version. We would all go nuts if they were all colour covers. ;)

Of that, I have no doubt.
One of the perks of not playing this edition is the freedom to hit the various threads saying hi and waving (and laughing at teams antics)
I might be cheering for a couple of teams. Obviously, Eni's team is at the top at that list (no, she wasn't looking behind my shoulder, but she eventually will read this and she knows where I sleep, so yeah, top of the list). But, I have a few more to cheer on.
Melindam wrote: "Violeta wrote: "One thing I’m still confused about, as an avid non-reading regular card game UNO player, is why do some cards seem to be just numbers and some a number and a color? Don’t all UNO ca..."Although, you could do that for the 10 year edition... just saying... a type of For Hard Core UNO Players... I'm pretty sure Hasbro would borrow that idea.

Thank you. You’ve so helpful 😁 newbie here so just getting to grips with it.
Kat and Violetta, you've both asked some great questions and that's how you learn! I'm pretty sure after we get started, you'll think it was much easier than you thought it would be. I play a lot of challenges and this was one of the easiest to pick up on whereas in Clue and Risk, I still have questions when it comes to strategy. Maybe because I've never played either of those, but used to play UNO growing up. Anyway, it's fairly straight forward and lots of fun. There's a reason this is a favorite challenge for so many!
Sonia wrote: "Knowing Sammy she already has a SS full of planned books. And some piles hanging around for surprises."Hey! I resemble that accusation! lol!
In my defence I had to do some planning at least, as I'm trying to make stuff work around another challenge too. And my maze. And stuff... :D

*giggles*
Nothing against. You're one of the few people I know that actually sticks to the plan.
Me? I'm a total mood reader, aka, first I read a book and then I see where I can fit it.
It's called being stubborn. I'm really good at it :D :DI tried mood reading, and I found I kept ignoring certain books that I did really want to read, because I'd get myself stuck in a genre or on a theme. After still having unread books on my shelf that I'd bought 25 years earlier, I figured it was time to find another way to decide what to read. challenges and prompts mostly help with that (although they're useless for certain books!).
I am SO stuck at the moment. I started Beasts Made of Night aaaages ago - like 4 Jan. It's 300pages, so I should have been done with it aaaaaaages ago. But it is just not landing for me, despite being everything that I usually enjoy :(I really need to get it finished this month, as if it is lingering into Feb I'll be super grumpy :(
Anyone want to take up the challenge of poking me on a daily basis to ask if I've read another chapter?!
Cat wrote: "I am SO stuck at the moment. I started Beasts Made of Night aaaages ago - like 4 Jan. It's 300pages, so I should have been done with it aaaaaaages ago. But it is just not landing fo..."Absolutely! I will definitely poke you and ask how it's coming along. I know that road! lol
I'm actually hoping my reading of print books will go a bit quicker again in a few weeks, as I've really slowed down unless I'm making a determined effort. I'm getting reading glasses (as opposed to the regular glasses I wear all day long), which should hopefully help stop the words from swimming around on the page like they've been doing the past year or so. My arms are getting tired from holding the books far away :D
Thanks, Cat, I just added that one to my TBR ;-)Maybe you're just not in the mood for it? In that case, I'd say, don't force it and leave it be. Either restart later or continue later. No need to be grumpy if it stays on your currently-reading shelf for a while :-) Sometimes it just isn't the right time to read certain books!
Vicki wrote: "Eldarwen, hi! :) Been awhile! Good to see you in this thread so I can say howdy!"Hello hello! :-D
Cat, it's also absolutely okay to dnf books or read it at another point in your life! Maybe this just isn't the month (or year) to read it :)
Just wondering, why are some of the topics blocked off? I'd like to 'sign in' and say hi in my group, but the entire thread is blocked off?
