Currently Reading/Just Finished 2023
I finished listening to Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson - 3.5*. An interesting historical novel about a shrewd businesswoman and her grown kids that run nightclubs in London post WWI. Although I liked the story, I thought it went in too many directions and the ending wrapped up too quickly.
My review for
The Demise of the Soccer Moms by Cathryn Grant

Layla by Colleen HooverMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I finished reading Prisoners of Geography: Ten Maps That Tell You Everything You Need to Know About Global Politics by Tim Marshall - 4*. A broad discussion of most countries, their geography, history and politics that was informative and gave me a better understanding of the world.
I seem to be late 'discovering' popular UK crime writer Mark Billingham. His new Detective Miller series, The Last Dance, has plenty of scope to move into the next book, which I look forward to. Declan Miller seems very human rather than hard-boiled. Funny. Sad.
My review of The Last Dance
This one's an historical mystery, featuring Jane Austen as sleuth!
Jane and the Unpleasantness at Scargrave Manor (Jane Austen Mysteries #1) by Stephanie Barron Review here
Two more reviews (I'm trying to tackle my NetGalley backlog!):
Day's End (Hirschhausen #4) by Garry Disher Review here
A Mischief of Rats (Nell Ward #3) by Sarah Yarwood-Lovett Review here

Home to Echidna Lane by Aussie Author Eva ScottMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
It's been a while coming but Adrian McKinty's latest thriller in his terrific Sean Duffy series was definitely worth waiting for.
The Detective Up Late by Adrian McKintyreview: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for
Murder By Fire by Faith Martin, #10 in her popular DI Hilary Greene series. Not my favourite of the series, but still a very enjoyable read with a lot going on for Hilary and the members of her team indicating some changes ahead.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Where the Dead Sleep by Joshua Moehling is a very enjoyable character driven murder mystery. Set in a small town, with a very likeable deputy sheriff with a wry sense of humour. review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The thriller, The Chalk Man, was a much-hyped debut by C.J. Tudor when it came out a few years ago, and today I needed a horror for a challenge. Yes, there's some creepy stuff.

I found
Dark Corners by AA Megan Goldin about a missing social media influencer a bit slow to get started (and social influencers very annoying) but enjoyed the book more as the plot thickened.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

My review of
The Detective Up Late by Adrian McKinty, a rare 5* review from me (but then, I'm a fan of the Sean Duffy series).https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Fine Art of Uncanny Prediction is the second book in Robert Goddard's Umiko Wada series, featuring a middle aged Japanese widow who becomes a PI after the investigator she keeps office for is killed. Not a cosy mystery, the plot is quite complex but well done.review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This is one for those who enjoy a high octane, fast paced thriller with a unique protagonist. It's the second in the series but is self contained and would work fine as a stand alone.
Deadlock by James Byrnereview: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
