Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments If Derek B. Miller is the author, it's a must-read for me. The Curse of Pietro Houdini is a moving, sometimes blackly funny, and thought-provoking page-turner. 5★s

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Late to the party on this one, and I see mixed reviews, but I absolutely loved Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. 5★s

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments I liked Wild Card, the second book in the Detective Zoe Mayer series even more than the first. Aussie author Simon Rowell gives us a good story with a cross-border investigation between Victoria and New South Wales and plenty of secret alliances. Harry is back in harness, still acting to serve and protect Zoe. Good boy!

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments With several quite confronting pieces, I found Mary Costello's collection of 9 short stories, Barcelona an unsettling and thought-provoking read. 4★s

The Year of Goodbyes and Hellos by Kelly Irvin
A mixed bag for me, though it has its moments. The main character lowered my reading experience, as did the narrators.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Any book by Lucy Treloar merits a reread, and having Gemma Carfi read me Days of Innocence and Wonder reinforces just how beautifully crafted, topical, thought-provoking and incredibly moving it is. 5★s

Andrea | 2163 comments I had a few issues with Jock Serong's The Settlement, but overall I thought it was a good read.

Carolyn | 9836 comments Fall (Detective Harriet Foster, #2) by Tracy Clark Fall by Tracy Clark is a good police procedural of the murder of two Chicago City alderman. The finger is pointing strongly at an ex-alderman just released from jail, but is she guilty?

Inspirational Wink and the Altogether Extraordinary Notebook by Delaney Evers
A fun cosy fantasy adventure with an older protagonist. Quite an enjoyable ride. Still up for request on Netgalley, if anyone wants to give it a try.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9974 comments Another eagerly anticipated instalment of the hugely entertaining Josef Slonský Investigations series is over way too soon and we can only hope Graham Brack has more of this cast up his literary sleeve.. 5 big ★s for The Murdered Molls.

Carolyn | 9836 comments I'm on the fence with this one. Loved the premise but not so much the execution. It's speculative alternative historical fiction (uchronia), imagining what the world would be like if HIV emerged 450 years earlier than it did.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Baumgartner is a man widowed too young who wonders if he has a future. Acclaimed American author Paul Auster gives us Baumgartner's sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always realistic musings. Excellent.

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments It was fun to eavesdrop on two old gentlemen comparing ghost stories from their schooldays. A School Story by M.R. James took place in 1870, but it could easily be a contemporary mystery.
