If Derek B. Miller is the author, it's a must-read for me. The Curse of Pietro Houdini is a moving, sometimes blackly funny, and thought-provoking page-turner. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
4 stars for contemporary/domestic drama
Emergency Exit Only by Aussie Author Michelle UptonMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Late to the party on this one, and I see mixed reviews, but I absolutely loved Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review of
A Different Kind of Gone by Catherine Ryan Hydehttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I really enjoyed Fiona Shaw's rendition of #4 in Richard Osman's Thursday Murder Club series, The Last Devil to Die with its bonus author interview at the end. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I liked Wild Card, the second book in the Detective Zoe Mayer series even more than the first. Aussie author Simon Rowell gives us a good story with a cross-border investigation between Victoria and New South Wales and plenty of secret alliances. Harry is back in harness, still acting to serve and protect Zoe. Good boy!
My review of Wild Card
With several quite confronting pieces, I found Mary Costello's collection of 9 short stories, Barcelona an unsettling and thought-provoking read. 4★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
My review for
Mrs Winterbottom Takes a Gap Year by Joanna Nell

The Year of Goodbyes and Hellos by Kelly Irvin
A mixed bag for me, though it has its moments. The main character lowered my reading experience, as did the narrators.

Any book by Lucy Treloar merits a reread, and having Gemma Carfi read me Days of Innocence and Wonder reinforces just how beautifully crafted, topical, thought-provoking and incredibly moving it is. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The latest Minds Shine Bright anthology, Storm: Minds Shine Bright (edited by AA Amanda Scotney) is the product of the first Seasons competition. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
American Girl is gripping crime fiction, my first by Wendy Walker but not my last. 5★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I had a few issues with Jock Serong's The Settlement, but overall I thought it was a good read.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Fall by Tracy Clark is a good police procedural of the murder of two Chicago City alderman. The finger is pointing strongly at an ex-alderman just released from jail, but is she guilty?review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Inspirational Wink and the Altogether Extraordinary Notebook by Delaney Evers
A fun cosy fantasy adventure with an older protagonist. Quite an enjoyable ride. Still up for request on Netgalley, if anyone wants to give it a try.

Another eagerly anticipated instalment of the hugely entertaining Josef Slonský Investigations series is over way too soon and we can only hope Graham Brack has more of this cast up his literary sleeve.. 5 big ★s for The Murdered Molls.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I just read
The Lucky Country: Amazing Australian Tales of Pure Dumb Luck by Eamon EvansMy review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I'm on the fence with this one. Loved the premise but not so much the execution. It's speculative alternative historical fiction (uchronia), imagining what the world would be like if HIV emerged 450 years earlier than it did.
The Wages of Sin by Harry Turtledovereview: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
The Austrian Bride: The BRAND NEW heartbreaking WWII novel from Helen Parusel for 2024 by Helen Parusel and my review.https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
This one has been on my TBR list since 2020. My thoughts on
Dark Paradise by AA Catherine Lee 4★https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Anyone in the mood for a mystery/romance with a dose of paranormal might enjoy the first book in Jayne Ann Krentz's The Lost Night Files series, Sleep No More. 4★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
James Patrick Cronin is the perfect narrator for Ron Rash's latest wonderful novel, The Caretaker. 5 big ★shttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Baumgartner is a man widowed too young who wonders if he has a future. Acclaimed American author Paul Auster gives us Baumgartner's sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, always realistic musings. Excellent.
My review of Baumgartner
It was fun to eavesdrop on two old gentlemen comparing ghost stories from their schooldays. A School Story by M.R. James took place in 1870, but it could easily be a contemporary mystery.
