Heart-warming for book lovers, and enjoyable as long as you don't overanalyse it.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments It's a wild ride on the coattails of ghosts and ghouls, swept along by Sri Lankan winds, in The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida, by 2022 Booker Prize winner Shehan Karunatilaka. More than half of my review is quotes, so there's more of his writing than mine. 😊

The Illusions by Liz Hyder
Historical fiction with a dash of magic. By far, my best read of June 2023, and one of my favourite reads of this year so far.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9975 comments I picked up a 9-book set of the Constable Evans series by Rhys Bowen for a ridiculously cheap price and found #1, Evans Above a very entertaining start to this Welsh cosy crime series. 5★s

I struggled with it too Andrea and have been putting writing a review in the too hard basket.

I'm reading it now and finding it very different from the others of his I've read. I'm not finished yet, but I'm a little worried.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments Michael Trant brings rural and outback Western Australia to life again with his latest thriller No Trace. Terrific audio - loved it!(

The audio edition hasn't been added to Goodreads yet, but it's out there.

PattyMacDotComma | 3299 comments For a few minutes of thought-provoking fun, have a (free) read of Andy Weir's couple of pages about 'Life" and the meaning thereof. I really enjoyed The Egg and added a link to where you can read it.

Carolyn | 9840 comments This is a wonderful coming of age story featuring two very different sisters in 1950s America, one who loves playing baseball. Set against the background of the Red Scare when communist sympathisers were outed, often with very little evidence. Recommended! (Still on Netgalley - pub 11 July; arch 12 Aug)

It is very different to his other books Patty. I’ve been tied up this week with packing up our kitchen/family room to get it ready for renovations, (as well as attending outpatients clinics for my broken wrist and re-fracture prevention!) so am a bit behind on my reviews but will get to it soon. I’ll be interested to see what you, Brenda and Marianne think of it.

I've been wondering how your wrist is now Carolyn. Good luck with the renovations!!

And I'm a little scared about reading this one, it's next for me!

Thanks Brenda, I got my cast taken off today and my wrist feels so much more comfortable already! We had three days notice that the kitchen was to be demolished yesterday, so had a very busy and exhausting weekend of packing and moving furniture but we got there.

Maybe the book will work better for you. I hope so!

Leonie (leonierogers) | 3567 comments Glad to hear your wrist feels better out of the cast, Carolyn! And you get to wash it, and and give it a nice scrub and a rub - I think that's the thing most people want to do most desperately.

Oh yes you're not wrong there Leonie :) Now I just have to work on getting my wrist to bend again!

Good luck with your "new" wrist Carolyn - and oh my gosh! Three days!! Good luck with coping with the upheaval as well :)

Carolyn | 9840 comments I loved the setting of this chilling murder mystery set in an isolated hut in deep winter in the Rocky Mountains, but the plot didn't work as well for me as for others.
