Both schools get new supers/deputy headmaster/mistress, and both supers are overbearing and too strict in the kids' opinions. I remember the boys' super being excited over a computer that helps him with discipline or something. Again I believe this took place in the 80's so having a computer was a HUGE thing. The boys' super is all about monotonous punishment if the boys do something wrong, like writing a mantra 345304958 times. 'I will not talk in class' etc.
The girls' super is all about exercise, she is possibly ex military and has the girls do calisthenics every morning, among other things. 10 mile hikes, etc. Her idea of punishment is more exercise.
I don't remember the specifics but the children meet up multiple times to discuss how to remove these new 'horrors' from their lives; The boys suggest to the Headmaster that they participate in the girls' morning calisthenics with their super (who is not in shape). They keep asking for more and more exercises, run the track again please! 80 more pushups please! In an effort to exhaust their super to the point he leaves them alone for awhile. It works but it backfires as they are also too tired to do anything afterwards.
I forget all their different attempts, but eventually the girls and boys get this idea to match make their supers together.. one of the boy's family has a restaurant in town and they manage to set them up on a date there.
The kids get into lots of trouble throughout the book as they plot different ways to get rid of their supers. Might have been something involving glue too, I can't remember.
It was a super cute read and I'd love to find it again. Read in the early '90s but it could have been older.
SPOILERS
(view spoiler)[The supers end up falling for each other and get married due to the kids' plotting, but I can't remember if they actually leave the schools or remain after marriage. (hide spoiler)]
