YA contemporary angst with two misunderstood teens which ends with a motorcycle accident. Spoilers ahead.

I remember reading this contemporary YA book, about two misunderstood teenagers - it was boy/girl with a very androgynous girl, or possibly boy/boy. They meet at school but spend most of their time outside of school together, and the boy gets the other character into a lot of trouble which is outside of their usual character. From my memory it wasn’t romantic. I don’t remember too much about the rest of the plot.

The novel ends with a motorcycle accident, in which the boy miraculously recovers without so much as a scratch. However, a few days later he suddenly dies after some kind of brain damage from his accident which went undetected (such as a bleed on the brain).

I read this book around 2010-2012. I think the cover was black/white/red? At the time I was into reading other angsty authors such as Cat Clarke, so it is possible it included other dark themes such as suicide or self-harm. I don’t know anyone else who read this book at the time so I’m not expecting it to be a big name author.
