I picked this book because of the cover and synopsis. This book leaves you guessing what would happen next. People who like action and thrillers with a hint of romance will like this book.
Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow.

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

"Ace of Shades has it all ...an utter delight."--Claire Legrand, New York Times bestselling author of Furyborn

Other books I have read that are similar are:
The Cruel Prince
Daughter of the Pirate King

Prisoners of the Castle An Epic Story of Survival and Escape from Colditz, the Nazis' Fortress Prison by Ben Macintyre Prisoners of the Castle by Ben MacIntyre

Formats we have in our library:
Book (regular print)

I picked up this book because of the historical interest of the 2nd World War.
This book is a non-stop 5 year prison drama pitting allied POW's versus their Axis (Nazi) captors. It shows the humane side of each person axis and allies!
The definitive and surprising true story of one of history’s most notorious prisons—and the remarkable cast of POWs who tried relentlessly to escape their captors, from the New York Times bestselling author of The Spy and the Traitor.

In this gripping narrative, Ben Macintyre tackles one of the most famous prison stories in history and makes it utterly his own. During World War II, the German army used the towering Colditz Castle to hold the most defiant Allied prisoners. For four years, these prisoners of the castle tested its walls and its guards with ingenious escape attempts that would become legend.

People who like history, WW2, and non-fiction books will like this book.

Ross Poldark (Poldark #1) by Winston Graham Ross Poldark by Winston Graham

Formats we have in the library:
Book (regular print)
E-book form on Hoopla
E-book and E-audiobook form on Libby

This is a whole series. Ross Poldark is the first in the series. This whole series is set during the Revolutionary War in Cornwall England. This sweeping family saga follows Ross Poldark as he returns home from America after the war. He finds his father deceased, broken promises and a devastated England. Although this story starts our dark it is easy to get lost in this world. The detailed landscape descriptions and character building is not to be missed. The scenery is beautiful and the story is amazing. A true triumph over tragedy saga with a little unexpected romance thrown in for good measure.

Ross Poldark is a heartwarming, gripping, and utterly entertaining saga that brings to life an unforgettable cast of characters and one of the greatest love stories of our age.

Thus begins an intricately plotted story spanning loves, lives, and generations. The Poldark series is the masterwork of Winston Graham, who evoked the period and people like only he could, and created a world of rich and poor, loss and love, that listeners will not soon forget.

Highland Bride (Murray Family, #6 & MacEnroys, #1) by Hannah Howell Highland Bride by Hannah Howell

Formats we have in the library:
Audiobook format
E-audiobook format on Hoopla

I picked this book up because it was part of the monthly LPL Readers Club Challenge, Family Stories Month. This is a good because, because Gillyanne is one of my favorite characters in the Murray family saga. This is the 6th book in the Murray series by Hannah Howell. So far, the whole series is a good one. I recommend all of them to read, if you like romance, Scotland and historical fiction.

People who like romance, medieval Scotland, historical and men with brogues will like this book. Other books by Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands will like this book.

"Few authors portray the Scottish highlands as lovingly or colorfully as Hannah Howell." -Publishers Weekly

"Expert storyteller Howell pens another Highland winner." -Romantic Times

I gave it 4 stars.
