Date 6 - Tasks: Breakdown of the qualifications for possible tasks for Date 6.Please remember that all tags/lists must qualify IN CONTEXT!! Links MUST be provided.
Don't make more work for yourself than necessary - if the qualifier is in the title or on the cover, use it! You don't have to go searching for tags to make it work. 😊 If the link you use for the book is the same you are using for the page count and edition - say so (see above edition or something similar)! That saves us all some steps. But please double check your links!
You may use separate editions of your Scavenger Hunt books to qualify for the different tasks. Links MUST be provided.
L is for ??? - ???
To be revealed when the date begins.
L is for Las Vegas - Read a book set in Nevada.
To qualify, your book needs to be set in Nevada. Qualification can be from the book details on the main book page (Nevada or city within Nevada), precis, title, tags or lists. Lists need to be specific to Nevada or will be examined similar to combo tags.
L is for Leap of Faith - Read a book by a new-to-you author.
To qualify for this task, the selected books need to be written by a new to you author. Please include as your qualifier a link to your shelves, ideally searched for the chosen author. You may have more books by the author on your shelves, but only the one selected for this task can be marked as read or rated. The book read for this task must be on your shelves! You may only use each new to you author once, after that they are no longer new to you. For this task, I will need to be able to see your shelves. If your profile is private, you will either need to open it for the duration of this task or friend me. If I am am unable to verify your books, they will not count!
L is for Left - Read a book with a left hand on the cover.
To qualify for this task, the qualifying cover needs to clearly and obviously show a left hand on the cover. You can use any edition's cover to qualify for this task. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion posts.
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "For Las Vegas would a tag of Nevada or Las Vegas work?"Yes, in context.
ETA: Just realized tags was not included in the options. I've edited that.
Left-hand:Just to be absolutely obvious, it is the model's left hand on the cover as the model looks at it - not the photograph of the model's hand as shown on the left.
Thanks!
Jane (PS) wrote: "Left-hand:Just to be absolutely obvious, it is the model's left hand on the cover as the model looks at it - not the photograph of the model's hand as shown on the left.
Thanks!"
Correct - it has to be the model's left hand. Not a hand on the left side of the cover or something like that.
Starstruck wrote: "For leap of faith - for multi-author books do they all have to be new to you?"At least one must be new to you.

Date 6 - L - TASK ANNOUNCEMENT
L is for Left -Read a book with a left hand on the cover.
To qualify for this task, the qualifying cover needs to clearly and obviously show a left hand on the cover. You can use any edition's cover to qualify for this task. Please include the qualifying cover in your completion posts.
Remember books must be 90 pages (first edition English language Kindle) and MPG Romance!!
You have until Friday, January 27 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).
Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #3 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts!

L is for Lad - Read a book with a child on the cover or in the story.
To qualify for this task, the title, précis, list or tag would need to include the words 'baby', 'child/ren' or 'kid/s'. The child needs to be a minor, grown children would not qualify. These words need to be in context, 'baby, it's cold outside' does not work. 'Childrens' as in children's books (books written for kids) is specifically excluded from this task. 'Childrens' will not be an acceptable qualifier even if the book is clearly not a children's book.
L is for Las Vegas - Read a book set in Nevada.
To qualify, your book needs to be set in Nevada. Qualification can be from the book details on the main book page (Nevada or city within Nevada), precis, title, or lists. Lists need to be specific to Nevada or will be examined similar to combo tags.

Heehee. Thank you! <3
I have a similar question as Roger. Does the entire hand need seen? Or will a little bit of the hand work like in this cover
Roger - president of NBR United - wrote: "For left would this work
? You can see the back of the hands but fingers in pocket."I don't see any hands or parts of hands on that cover? 🤷🏻♀️
Christina T wrote: "I have a similar question as Roger. Does the entire hand need seen? Or will a little bit of the hand work like in this cover
"The whole hand does not need to be visible, but enough has to show that there is no doubt that you are seeing the left hand on the cover. A little piece of skin like that isn't clearly and obviously the hand. If you have to infer from other parts of the cover like on this one, it isn't enough.
Maggie wrote: "Since others have asked - this would be my cover question.
"No, the hand isn't visible, really only down to the wrist. Doesn't fit the task requirements.

Thank you! The explanation you provided Christina is perfect. I know what to look for now.

Thanks Kat! I’m very good at second guessing myself for no reason lol
Starstruck wrote: "Hi Kat,I'm not sure if this sort of stylized hand would count?

Thanks!"
I would allow that - you can see fingernails so it is clearly a hand.
Hi MKat,Some of us...(o.k. I mean me!) struggle to get the correct Kindle page numbers for our postings. Could you give us directions on how to get the right number?
Here are the steps I use, but still get the wrong number. Where do I go wrong?
1. Go to book's GR page.
2. Open "all editions"
3. Using "format" menu at top, select "Kindle"
Then I look for the oldest English Kindle edition or the one released the day the book was published.
If there are 2 page counts for the earliest English publications date, do you have a rule on which we should use?
For example, see Kitty and the Midnight Hour. The date sorted Kindle publication list has two published January 9, 2007 as oldest. They vary by about 40 pages.
Thank you.
Benita
Having problem with good reads beta page cant get it off and it doent show shelves or mpg what can I do?
Hope you don't mind me jumping in, one of the librarian's helped me with the same issue. Most books should still have the MPG but some books may not have been tagged enough times for the main page to update. To get to the shelves you can go to the show all editions page and edit the url from "editions" to "shelves"www.goodreads.com/work/editions/93794140
www.goodreads.com/work/shelves/93794140
Sorry there isn't an easier way to do this with the new layout.

Is this ok even though shes wearing gloves?"
I'm seeing gloves as a slippery slope (what about mittens or a muff...), so I am just going to avoid it. If you can't see the actual hand - and you can't on that cover because it is covered, it doesn't work. Sorry.
BTW, I don't think that book is MPG Romance.

It sounds like what you are doing is the same thing I do. I think I just do it a lot more frequently than other people.
This is posted in several spots talking about what I am looking for:
If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books! As long the page count you list is correct, I will accept any link to the book.
In the case of your example, there are three editions listed with the earliest Kindle publication date of January 9, 2007. The page counts are 292, 288 and 256. You are free to use any of those page counts.

SUPER helpful tip.
I'm having the same problem with searching for first kindle edition. I looked at 6 different books by 6 different authors and only one book game me a show all editions button to click. Dead Serious Case #2: Mrs Delores Abernathy which only has that one edition so why the clickable link 🤷♀️. Whereas The Return of Rafe MacKade has lots of editions and no clickable link for me. As I scroll through them I see there is a Silhouette kindle edition from 2011 and a Mira kindle edition also from 2011. I have to open both editions up so see which one came first. When I open both I can see the Silhouette edition was published June whereas the Mira was published in September. Neither one gives me the ASIN alphanumeric to copy and paste in the add book/author space to avoid having to search again and possibly getting the wrong edition anyway. When you look at the other editions in the "add book/author" there are two books that have the same cover and same published year (but no actual date) one on the first page and one on the second...
but it doesn't include the type (kindle or ebook) in this area. In order to get the right one I counted the editions from left to right on the book's page, making sure to include the default edition as #1, so the Silhouette edition is the 3rd one down the list when I open the add book spot. There has to be an easier way.
Christina T wrote: "I'm having the same problem with searching for first kindle edition. Dead S..."</i>I don't know what to say - I see a link for all editions on both books. It says 'Show all editions' on [book:Dead Serious Case #2: Mrs Delores Abernathy. And 'Show all 74 editions' on The Return of Rafe MacKade.
As I said earlier - this is all I need:
If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. ‼️Please read‼️As we all adjust to the new page layout, I know there will be plenty of frustration. Please don't stress over it too much!
I do NOT care what edition you link to! As long as you have a correct page count in your completion post and a link to the book you read - I am happy.
Please check your links though! On a couple of occasions recently, I've seen an edition not linked to the other editions of the same book. Those single editions might not have the necessary MPG or ratings or whatever I am looking for at the time. I go out of my way to try to figure things out, but am not always able.
I don't know why my phone browser isn't showing the same options you are seeing. I've tried both Crome and Firefox with the same result. No all editions button. Super frustrating 😤 I don't have access to a computer to post either. Only my phone.
Christina T wrote: "I'm having the same problem with searching for first kindle edition. I looked at 6 different books by 6 different authors and only one book game me a show all editions button to click..."I think I have figured out at least part of the issue with the links to edition pages. The format of the main page changes based on the print size in relation to the browser window size. If you have a 'normal' sized computer screen with the browser taking up most of it, and your print size is in the neighborhood of 100%, the cover pic will be on the left side of the page with info beside it. The link to the editions page will show below the 'other editions' thumbnails. If you shrink the window and/or zoom in and make the print/graphics larger, eventually the layout of the page will change so that (among other things) the cover photo is in the center of the screen. This layout does not have the link to the editions page. So if you don't have the link to the editions page showing, try enlarging your browser window or zooming out and shrinking the print. Obviously if you're using a tablet or a small netbook that might not always be possible, but hopefully this will help at least some.
Christina T wrote: "I don't know why my phone browser isn't showing the same options you are seeing. I've tried both Crome and Firefox with the same result. No all editions button. Karen you are brilliant! The other editions clickable link only shows up when I turn my phone on landscape instead of portrait. I hate the landscape mode but will use it to choose the correct edition. I wonder why it's not there in portrait.ETA never mind I went back and read your post above. Your explanation is excellent and explains so much.
Christina T wrote: "Karen you are brilliant! The other editions clickable link only shows up when I turn my phone on landscape instead of portrait.
