Katrisa | 4460 comments For business man/woman does it have to be like high finance or can it be someone who owns a small business?

message 3: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I consider myself a business woman, and I run of business with just myself, so go for it Katrisa.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Janice, can you veryify for me that The One Hundred Years of Lenni and Margot is listed as young adult. It's the one-before-last genre for me on the new book page and I don't want to lose it :)

message 5: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments It's verified, Peggy. Please indicate when reporting that I verified it.

Viji | 1506 comments Task:
3. Four letters: Any of 52 in a deck - [Card (hide spoiler)]
Read a book that has at least one playing card on the cover.

Would The Red King (Wilde Justice, #1) by Jenn Stark work for this task?

Thanks.

message 8: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Does the businessman or businesswoman have to be the “owner” of a business or could they be the manager of a said business? I found a book where the owner is included - Madam Somebody, but the main character of the story is the manager of the Village Blend, a coffee house. (On What Grounds by Cleo Coyle is the name of the book but I am on my iPod and cannot link.)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments Definition of a businessman:
a man who works in business or commerce, especially at an executive level.

I am going to learn, someday, Janice. Thanks. :o)
I dumped the book I had started and am now posting my actual read.

message 13: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments will this work for playing card? There are 2 on the cover, but the cover is sort of busy.
Unthinkable What the World's Most Extraordinary Brains Can Teach Us About Our Own by Helen Thomson

message 14: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments Yes, it will work Katrisa.

Would The Fine Print work? The male lead is the Director and heir of a theme park (and a billionaire).

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments Yes, close enough.

ETA: Never mind - I found a German books that fits the task and suits me. Lava und Wellen: Tod auf dem Vulkan

message 20: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments The first thing that came to mind for me for a volcano is Ashfall. I've wanted to read it for a while. It is one of the oldest books on my TBR.

Katrisa | 4460 comments I found Island on Fire: The Extraordinary Story of a Forgotten Volcano That Changed the World free from the audible plus catalog and the audio cover is pure volcano

message 22: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments I was looking for something that featured a volcano without being a book about volcanos. ;)
There must be some books where a volcano plays a significant role, like the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland in 2010 which hindered flights all over Europe. I think I actually read a mystery where that was a plot point.

As a bonus - I just noticed this was published in 2011 so it will fit the monthly theme for March if you wanted to read it soon.

Maybe a book about hiking a volcano? Nothing jumps to mind though.

Edit: Never mind. I see you edited your earlier post that you found something.

I have The Fires which is about a volcanologist in Iceland. I'm not sure it fits your criteria though.

LoriLovesBooks | 244 comments For those who don’t want to read a non-fiction book about volcanoes two good novels around the eruption of Vesuvius are:

Pompeii
A Day of Fire: A Novel of Pompeii

Other volcano novels that seem to fit that I’ve found are:

The Last Days of Pompeii - historical fiction
The Secrets of Vesuvius - middle grade historical mystery
Kidnap in the Caribbean - middle grade mystery
Ashes to Dust - mystery
A Journey to the Centre of the Earth - sci-fi adventure
Melting Stones - fantasy
The Angry Mountain - thriller
Volcano Adventure - YA adventure
Lion of Senet - fantasy
Vulcan's Forge - thriller
Curses and Smoke - YA historical fiction
My Volcano - sci-fi/fantasy

Viji | 1506 comments Task:
10. Four letters: Highway part -[Lane (hide spoiler)]
Read a book with a road on the cover where the lanes can clearly be identified

Would Nobody by Creston Mapes be acceptable for the above task?

Thanks.

message 30: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I'll accept it. I was thinking that the lanes were demarcated by line painting, but the lights of the vehicles also show the lanes.

message 31: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19148 comments Really good book that I'd recommend for the road with lanes task is The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. He wrote A Gentleman in Moscow.

The Twelfth Card (Lincoln Rhyme, #6) by Jeffery Deaver The Twelfth Card

Odette (odman) | 997 comments Not sure if this book fits for the volcano task:
Blood Orchids
Blood Orchids (Paradise Crime Mysteries, #1) by Toby Neal
The book blurb says, 'Steaming volcanoes, black sand beaches and shrouded fern forests are the backdrop to Lei's quest for answers'

message 37: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I've read the book and I don't think you could consider volcanoes to be a theme. It's set on the Big Island of Hawaii which does have a volcano, but it's not part of the story.

That's OK. Sometimes it is a bit hard to tell by looking at the blurb and reviews.
I like your suggestion The Fires: A Novel, which is available on Kindle Unlimited.
Also tempted by Pompeii: City on Fire T.L. Higley
Pompeii City on Fire by Tracy Higley

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah

message 40: by Odette (new)

Odette (odman) | 997 comments Sorry to be a nuisance. Another question for Task 9, businessman/woman. Is the following book OK?
The Mother by Jane Caro
The blurb says, 'Recently widowed, Miriam Duffy is a respectable North Shore real estate agent and devoted mother and grandmother.'
