Kabrada | 268 comments Would a road with just one lane suffice for task #10?

I am thinking of this one:

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I'm on the fence with this one. It looks like a narrow street in an European village. It is only one lane, so it's a little hard to have "lanes" clearly marked. It looks to me that the street is bordered with gutters as apposed to line painting, so I'm going to say no. I don't think it quite meets the criteria. Sorry.

Katrisa | 4460 comments will this work for card on cover? The whole cover is a card
Queen of Hearts (Queen of Hearts Saga, #1) by Colleen Oakes

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments That's an interesting cover. It would be a shame to not use it for this task, so go for it.

message 55: by Katrisa (new)

Katrisa | 4460 comments cool! I did have another book slotted for this task but I bought this series during the audible sale and I hoped it would work :)

I will hopefully find another book, but just to explain: The (definitely narrow, definitely village-y and most certainly British) road is marked on the left and right with double yellow lines, indicating that no parking is allowed.

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments Twist my arm, Kabrada. If there are painted line and not gutters, you can use it.

message 58: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments If there was any arm twisting, it was by no means intentional. I'll be reading (listening to) the book anyway, but being able to use it for completing a task makes me look forward to it even more. ;)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments No worries - go ahead Kabrada.

Naomi (nchigh) | 707 comments for the task about the Himalayans - does the book need to be set in the mountains or just in one of the listed countries?

message 61: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments It needs to be set in one of the listed countries. Note that Tibet was annexed by China, so if you chose a book set in Tibet, consider it part of China.

You can see the line painting that designates the edge of the lane, so you are good to go.

No, sorry. There doesn't appear to be any line painting on that laneway.

Kabrada | 268 comments Before I struggle some more with my current book,
Death In Disguise (Chief Inspector Barnaby, #3) by Caroline Graham
I thought I'd better ask whether tarot cards are actually even considered to be playing cards?
Otherwise I'd DNF the book...

message 69: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments Quick, get a good book and DNF this one. I'm planning on reading Cards on the Table for this one.

message 70: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments That does definitely sound like a much better choice, Janice!

I am on board with your ruling Janice but I do have to say that I totally used to play solitaire games with my tarot cards lol :)

message 72: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments That's interesting Katrisa. Maybe we can do a task requiring divination cards on the cover....

message 73: by Kabrada (last edited Oct 03, 2023 12:57PM) (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments The Playing Card task seems to be jinxed for me. I went through this thread and through all the individual challenge reporting threads to look for books others had read for this task.
There were few that interested me from what the blurb said - and now one of them (Peg and Rose Solve a Murder) was a DNF after only three chapters.

(Having read all the Poirot novels sometime in the 1980's, I am leaving a re-read of that one for last, in case everything else fails.)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments I hope you find something that appeals to you Kabrada.

message 75: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments Well, I did find something and am now about halfway through The Witness at the Wedding A Fethering Novel 6 by Simon Brett . I started on the Fethering series a few years ago and read the first four books. This one is #6. Having no memories whatsoever of the first four books might be a plus in this case - the main character is a rather annoying person. But I'll definitely finish this one!

message 76: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59905 comments Good luck with it Kabrada.

message 77: by Kabrada (new)

Kabrada | 268 comments Thanks. I am done with this one, yay!
