Cara (sierraaubergine) Okay, let's face it. There's some seriously awesome books out there you wouldn't find in a Christain book store. So here is the place to reccomend and talk about them!
My favorite non-Christain series is Hunger Games. They're pretty clean, and very exciting!
So, what do y'all think of Divergent? I actually haven't read them, and I've been reading a confusing pool of mixed reviews. Some people LOVE them, others say a lot of bad stuff about them. So, I want to know what you all think. Any thoughts?

message 2: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Hmmmm, I agree with both sides. I liked the first book, the second one not as much, and the third one I really disliked. The first one was interesting, had a good storyline, and wasn't innapropriate (except for some kissing scenes). The second one declined, the storyline was still good, but the love scenes got a little too detailed and I was dissapointed by that. The third one was even worse though and had some bad language. This surprised me because I thougt Veronica Roth was a Christian writer and I was expecting her to show some of that in her books. I also didn't like the storyline in the third one, it was boring, way to detailed, and disappointing. The only thing I liked was the ending which everybody else hated. It was the only realistic part aboit it (I won't give anytjing away).
So, yeah, I wouldn't recommend them. And I jus got want to say this is all my own opinion and I totally respect whatever you guys think. :)

message 3: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) That's werid that a Christain writer would put bad language in a book. That just really confuses me.
Some people say that Divergent is just ripping off Hunger Games. And what I've heard of the plot it seems so. It seems a lot like Hunger Games just not as good. So, instead of reading them, I thought I'd just re-read Hunger Games. ;) lol.

message 4: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Yeah, I think The Hunger Games are better.

message 5: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) :)

message 6: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) Has anyone read the Twilight series? If so, what did you think of them? If not, are you planning on reading them?

message 7: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) I haven't read them, but I absolutely no interest to either.

message 8: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) yeah, same here. my brother read them and said they were 'blah' so I never looked into them.

What's your favorite series that isn't exactly Christain?

message 9: by Haley (new)

Haley S (haleyjs) Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It is not Christian but it is still very good!!

message 10: by Haley (new)

Haley S (haleyjs) The movies are also AMAZING!! (So excited for Mockingjay part b to come out!!)

message 11: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) I just watched Catching Fire for the first time! It was AMAZING! And now I REALLY need to watch Mokingjay! lol :D

message 12: by Haley (new)

Haley S (haleyjs) You will LOVE it!!

message 13: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) Probably! lol :D

message 14: by avery joy (new)

avery joy AHHH I LOVVVVEEEE HUNGER GAMES!

message 15: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (ruthelizabethg) | 8 comments I LOVE The Tigers Curse series by Colleen Houck! There isn't any swearing in it but sometimes the romance is a little much.

message 16: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) those look cool!

message 17: by Rampion (new)

Rampion (rampion2) I would probably say Matched by Ally Condie because I've read them all the way through. (I would say Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, but I'm only on the third book, and It hasn't been my favorite book series so far.) The Matched books are pretty clean except for some mild language in them, but other than that, I really liked them. If fact, they were my favorite books until I read the Anomaly books by Krista Mcgee (which I would've put, but they're christian).

message 18: by avery joy (new)

avery joy The title of this chat is spelt wrong :$ it's supposed to be Christian not Christain.

message 19: by Cara (new)

Cara (sierraaubergine) fixed it. Sorry about that. :P

message 20: by avery joy (new)

avery joy No problem :)

message 21: by Chanel (new)

Chanel (channel12) | 52 comments I sometimes get the spelling mixed up too! Lol

message 22: by avery joy (new)

avery joy I looked at it for a long time...like uhh how do you spell it...lol!

message 23: by Chanel (new)

Chanel (channel12) | 52 comments Lol

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 77 comments Hahahaha

message 25: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Is the Hunger Games really that good? It seems like everyone I know loves it...

message 26: by M.K. (new)

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 77 comments Well its good but not one of my favorites. I wouldn't reccomend it. Its just a teen trend ya know. That's y everybody is so crazy about it. But honestly it will not help you in any way in life. Lol.

message 27: by avery joy (new)

avery joy Hunger Games is one of my favorite series! It's totally clean too! Just my opinion though :)

message 28: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) It's not one of my favorites, but I thought it was pretty good. It was relatively clean too, better than Divergent in that sense. :)

message 29: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) But, yes, I agree with Mary Kate. It won't help you much in life. ;)

message 30: by avery joy (new)

avery joy Haha Mary Kate is right :)

message 31: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) How violent is it? It just seems like kids killing kids...

message 32: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Yeah, it pretty much is. :( It's more violent than the movies if you've seen the movies. It's detailed which is what makes it more disturbing, but though it didn't bother me personally, I would recommend younger teenagers to read it when they get older.

message 33: by M.K. (new)

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 77 comments Yes that's the main reason why I don't have it on my favorites list. I kinda felt bad even having read it because of feeling immoral about all the killing. The 3rd one is the worst in violence level but the first one is more kids killing kids. That's why I wouldn't reccomemd it. on a level of books it'd b super good but the feeling you get from reading such makes it become a low number. And in my opinion it is lots more violent than the movies and reading gets you thinking about it much more easily...

message 34: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) I agree!

message 35: by avery joy (new)

avery joy For me it didn't really bother me...but I had to wait till I was 12 to read it. And then I was fine. I didn't really think about the kids killing kids part too much I guess. I don't know :) I'd say it all depends on the person.

message 36: by M.K. (new)

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 77 comments Yea. Well I'm not one to b bothered too easily BC I love action and thrillers. Lol. But I just felt bad BC of thinking I was reading something wrong ya know. I didn't feel too good about it...

message 37: by avery joy (new)

avery joy Ah I get what you mean...

message 38: by M.K. (new)

M.K. Aneal (mkaneal) | 77 comments Yeah. Lol. But ya know its hard to find something clean with today's standards anyhow.

message 39: by Haley (new)

Haley S (haleyjs) I LOVE Hunger Games!!

message 40: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) I don't know I mean I would probably be fine watching the movies, but reading the books would be different. It seems kinda interesting to me...but I'm not sure that I would like it. I do like the Divergent trilogy though, Allegiant was my least favorite, and not just because of the ending.

message 41: by avery joy (new)

avery joy Hunger Games is pretty similar to Divergent. Except divergent gets a tad too romantic!

message 42: by Sierra (new)

Sierra Faith (bookaddict_98) | 9 comments Has anybody read ANything by Sarah j Mass? Specifically her Throne of Glass series? I have heard people rave about it but they had read other books I would never read! Thoughts?

message 43: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) I have read Throne of Glass, I thought it was pretty good. I think there is some language in it, I know there is some in The Assassin's Blade. There is one other little thing but I can't really tell you because it would give some stuff away but it wasn't bad. I don't think there is anything else but it has been a little while since I have read it. I haven't finished the series so I can't tell you about the other books, but I enjoyed the first one :)

Thanks!!! That's great :) I didn't know whether or not to read them because her newest book had a uh. bad scene in it or so I heard!

message 45: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) yeah I'm not sure about her new book but I think I've heard that to so I've kinda stayed away from it.

Queen Of Narnia wrote: "yeah I'm not sure about her new book but I think I've heard that to so I've kinda stayed away from it."

It does. There's a very graphic sex scene that goes on for about 5 or 6 pages someone on Youtube said.

message 47: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) Well I'm defiantly not going to be reading that. Now I'm kinda nervous about the rest of the Throne of Glass series...has anyone read the other 2 books in the series?

message 48: by avery joy (new)

avery joy I haven't ever even heard about the series...

I haven't read her ToG series, but I do know there is some quite a bit of swearing, a friend of mine said.

message 50: by Dominique (new)

Dominique (domsvoyages) I don't remember to much in the first book but I could be wrong, I started reading the Assain's blade and read 2 stories in it and it seemed like it had a lot.
