Shifty (shiftynj) | 7 comments This is going to be a tough one because I'm not sure the book was ever commercially published. I received it in an unbound form probably in the early 80s.

The book was told from the perspective of a middle school aged child with intellectual challenges, kind of explaining what his life was like and how he related to others he knew. It had many photos, including some of cargo ships in the Boston harbor area where the protagonist lived.

I recall the book still used the word "retarded" in a neutral way, which I'm guessing would not happen now.

Will be pleasantly surprised if anybody remembers this one or knows more about it. Thanks!

Capn | 3506 comments So it was a photographic picture book?

Take Wing is from that time, but I guess the format is totally wrong. :)

Possibly something like:

Rainbowheart | 28682 comments Sounds along the lines of My Brother Steven Is Retarded, only it's told from the perspective of the brother.

What is the context in which you received the unbound book? Were you working at a publisher or did you know someone who did?
