Girl finds a path to another world. Meets a group of other young people maybe as old as 16. New friends are almost like a resistance. Friends can fly. Convince her she can fly if she holds a special feather. One friend is captured by industry-style police, I think called flugs. Friend is rescued.
When girl returns to home world she makes effort to notice things like colour of passing car, what the number plate is.
Theme of story is village life / organic life is better than city life. Can't remember if it was this book or sequel made a comparison of city bread vs home-made bread again on the idea that consumerisim, city living, industry is bad and village life, home baking, organic is good.
