Our current series will wrap up at the end of December 2022, so I am opening nominations for our next series to begin January 1, 2023.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Rules for nominating a series:
1. The series must be complete (as far as we can reasonably tell).
2. The series must be fantasy (I know, seems obvious).
3. The series should not be targeted mainly for middle school or a YA audience.
4. The series must not be one the group has already read. Look through the list of discussions or the group bookshelf to see if we’ve read it before.
5. Each member may nominate one series. Please tell us the name of the series, the author, how many books are in the series, and the name of first book in the series. If you want to add more information, please feel free.
6. Nominations no longer need a second to move into the polling as long as they meet the other guidelines.
8. Nominations will be open through November 20. We will then have a poll. If there are a lot of nominations or the results are close, we will have a run-off poll between or among the top vote-getters.

Nominations are open! Let’s go!

John | 139 comments I would lime to nominate the Inda series by Sherwood Smith (4 books starting with Inda). Early on it’s a “smart kid goes off to his country’s military academy” story, eventually we get ships and pirates. There’s political intrigue and in-fighting and eventually a dire external threat. Smith is pretty unflinching in the difficulties she heaps on her characters, who are good people trying to do the right thing. Interesting world, well-written characters, strong plotting.

Michelle (michellehartline) | 135 comments That's one of my favorite series, John!

Nachiket | 19 comments I'll nominate The Tide Child Trilogy (3 books) starting with The Bone Ships by R.J. Barker.

A tale of seafaring adventure with heart and deeds of derring-do. Set in a world where vast seas and oceans cover the majority of its mass, hundreds of islands are scattered across it, and huge ships made from the bones of long-dead sea dragons are the primary means of transportation, war, and commerce.

(Won the British Fantasy Award for Best Fantasy Novel)

Marcin (mkarwin) | 6 comments I'd nominate a combo of two closely related series in the same universe: 'The Exploits of Ebenezum' (https://www.goodreads.com/series/4932...) and its continuation 'The Ballad of Wuntvor' (https://www.goodreads.com/series/4932...) by Craig Shaw Gardner.

A witty quest fantasy tale of a cursed mage and his young eternal apprentice on their journey to cure the mage of the cursed malady, save the world from the bad demon, and finally start and consequently complete the apprenticeship...

I’m going to nominate the Sharing Knife/Wide Green World Series by Lois McMaster Bujold, 4 books starting with Beguilement. I have enjoyed both her science fiction novels and her other fantasy books. I know this has an element of romance, but I think the fantasy elements are predominant. Bujold’s characters are always three-dimensional and interesting.

Oh that's a good one Kathy!

I have been thinking about Juliet Marilliers beautiful writing, and would like to nominate Dreamer's Pool the first of the Blackthorn's and Grimm trilogy.

Martha (tilla) | 8 comments Collegia Magica by Carol Berg (3 books)

1) The Spirit Lens: A Novel of the Collegia Magica

message 10: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments What about Lays of Anuskaya which is a trilogy and starts with The Winds of Khalakovo by Bradley P. Beaulieu. I read a prequel short some years go and it was really well told. All published aaagggeeess ago.

message 11: by Nicholas (new)

Nicholas Cave | 1 comments I would like to nominate The First Law series! There are 3 in the trilogy with the first being The Blade Itself.

Joe Abercrombie is top notch when it comes to his character development and realism with morally grey characters. Also, the action he writes is some of the best I have read!

*Side note, audibles audiobook of this Trilogy narrated by Steven Pacey is the best I have ever listened to*

Nicholas wrote: "I would like to nominate The First Law series! There are 3 in the trilogy with the first being The Blade Itself."

The group read this series in 2012 and therefore, it is not eligible. Please see rule #4. “The series must not be one the group has already read. Look through the list of discussions or the group bookshelf to see if we’ve read it before.”

Feel free to nominate something else before nominations close tonight.
