Hello and welcome to another reading wrap up! As a reminder, this year I’ve decided to partake in the PopSugar Reading Challenge, which is a set of 50 prompts which you read a book to match, so I’ll be including those prompts and my progress in these wrap ups. For more info check this website: https://www.popsugar.com/entertainmen....
I’m currently at 41/50 for the PopSugar Challenge.
Now onto the Wrap Up!

This month I read…

The Golden Enclaves by Noami Novick
Perfect ending to an amazing series. So much happens in this book it almost could have been two, yet it never felt like the author was rushing through. I seriously can not say enough good things about this series. If you like fantasy, you have to read this book.
This was for the Popsugar Prompt: A different book by an author you read in 2021

The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling
A solid romance that I thought was cute. I really just wish the characters would have talked about the past that made them ex’s in the first place (a misunderstanding of engaged vs. betrothed) because it really could have been easily resolved. Also, they continue to just not communicate feelings, etc throughout the novel which just creates unnecessary issues. I still enjoyed it and the supernatural witchy elements were cool, I’ll just be surprised if this couple makes it long term without learning how to discuss things with each other.
This was for the Popsugar Prompt: A book about witches

Playing Nice by JP Delaney
This was a solid domestic thriller that kept me turning pages and invested in the story. The unimaginable situation the narrators are put in in which they find out their son was switched at birth with another is made worse when the other family is way more than they bargained for. The narrators are also both somewhat unreliable which keeps you on your toes even more as you read through the shocking situations and information. The ending was excellent as well, it is the best domestic thriller I've read in a while.
This was for the Popsugar Prompt: Two books set in twin towns, aka “sister cities” (London)

The Day the World Came to Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim Defede
I listened to this one on Audiobook. When I dove into the true story behind the Broadway show Come From Away I was instantly enthralled in the story of Gander on 9/11/01. I was super excited to read this book, but ended up being slightly disappointed. Honestly, I do think that it was mainly the narrator. His narration combined with the choppy way the stories were written by the author just didn’t make for a great Audiobook experience. I was still intrigued by the stories and I’m glad the author did go back to certain families or people throughout. I loved the kindness of the people in Gander as well. The way they would have strangers over to shower or even lend them their car was amazing. Definitely worth a read, I would just maybe try the print edition instead.

Clap When You Land By Elizabeth Acevedo
I love a novel written in prose and this one was simply beautiful. The prose captured grief, jealousy, fear and so many other emotions so beautifully when telling the story of the two girls who shared a father but never knew of each until their fathers death in a plane crash. This story will definitely hit you emotionally, but it is so good and worth it.
This was for the Popsugar Prompt: A book featuring two languages
