Iron Man, In Death Series, Buddy Read Challenge [Next Release: #61 Framed in Death -- September 2nd, 2025]
Hahahaha!!!! Eve and Roarke reactions when told they are family and they are expected to be with Mavis when she'll be giving a birth!!! Just absolutely hilarious!!!

I loved the opening of Indulgence, in Ireland... it almost made me think of the upcoming Twelve Months, or cozy novels, where we see what life is like on the non-hectic days... except that the timeline for this series is so tight, E&R don't really get non-hectic days, do they? And the murder mystery was fun, as always.
Treachery, it was really interesting seeing a story about building a case when they already knew the who and where of the culprit. And the contrast between Eve & the villain's upbringing too. Definitely dittoing Choko on how hard it is to hear stories about dirty cops, or teachers, or other members of society that often get a bad rap but are mostly really really hard workers... I'm just glad that the villain isn't someone we already trust, like in St. Mary's...

Sometime, between where you're at, and where we're at, they agree to get married... someday... when they're grown-ups... :D

Nyssa wrote: " Calculated In Death (Book #36)"I just finished chapter 18, and I am cracking up.
I never thought I'd see Eve practically manhandling Peabody! Anything for the op, I guess.
Plus, why am I so tickled when Roarke flirts with Peabody? I can't help but smile.
I love that all parties involved know that it's completely platonic.
Monika, that was so hard to read at the end!!! But our ladies are strong and awesome and they have a great support system now...
Nyssa wrote: "I'm only 20 pages into Calculated In Death (Book #36), and sadly, I already suspect [spoilers removed].Of course, It's natural to question them automatically, but I don't want it..."
I suspected that person too at first! (view spoiler)
Tonari no Emily wrote: "Calculated was more of a fun one! Definitely needed after the past few. (view spoiler)"I agree about Eve. And yes, I loved the interactions between all of the characters! That was more enjoyable than the case itself.

For sure! I wasn't terribly invested in the case this time
Started Survivor in Death. Wow! Poor little girl. Good she's in Roarke's place. I bet that's the safest place for her now. Definitely this murder looks like sort of military op or something. Few good layers of things to check for Eve and Delia.
Yeah, I really loved Survivor... it's such a different dynamic when kids are involved... all the emotions...I am FINALLY up to the big #33 New York to Dallas and so excited to get into this... only just started, and it's different (view spoiler)
Totally 5* for Survivor! I was hoping Nixie will stay with Eve and Roarke, but can't have everything.
I would like to see Nixie pop up again for a cameo... E&R aren't having children, but they have one honorary niece already...
Nyssa wrote: "@Monika- Nora said there are no plans for Eve and Roarke to have children, adopted or otherwise."
Not quite... she's said there are no plans for Eve and Roarke to have children before the series ends... she could end up pregnant towards the end of the series, but the second she delivers that baby, the series is over (and Eve is probably stuck in a management position in the NYPSD)...

Finished #33 New York to Dallas and y'all weren't kidding about how intense! And wow! (view spoiler)I also really respect Robb's ability to deal with and talk about trauma--acknowledging that it doesn't go away, but also showing that it can be fought, and there is a way through it.
hmmm... babies or not for them two, I still love to read this series :)And how Nora decide to finish the series we will find out :)
Nirkatze, that book was a heartbreak, but as you said, despite all the trauma, as long as you have that support system and Galahad, you can combat it and come up on the winning side!Monika, absolutely! We are all here for the long haul:)))

I'm more concerned she WON'T finish the series, and just keep writing until her deathbed...
Then again, maybe a surprise pregnancy is just considered easy to edit into an epilogue chapter in an emergency... and call it done... something about how "life will never be the same"

Surprise pregnancy probably coming with a promotion to captain or chief or something...@ Choko, re: 33--Galahad! I forgot to mention Galahad! Total star of the show.
I have almost finished Thankless in Death (Chapter 19).While there have been moments that have made me a little misty-eyed - I am in complete tears now!
Pretty crazy from the get-go... I started it while eating dinner, and the killer is a real psycho... and a narcissist that is never at fault (I think that's the way to describe him)...
Choko wrote: "Ooohhhh, no! One of those!!! I have to prepare myself..."These were happy tears - although the crimes are pretty gruesome!
Timelord Iain wrote: "Pretty crazy from the get-go... I started it while eating dinner, and the killer is a real psycho... and a narcissist that is never at fault (I think that's the way to describe him)..."
Yes, that is good enough; I have a few additional adjectives (which I have added to my review), but what you said will do.
Glad to see I'm only 4 books behind... I just finished #33.5 Chaos in Death and was surprised to find it was another of the supernatural shorts. I don't know why I thought we were through those yet--and I like that it was hinting Frankenstein but was really (view spoiler)--which I totally called from the first scene.
Nyssa, re your first comment on Calculated in Death... I have no idea why the husband didn't even make my radar for a suspect... And I can't believe it has anything to do with the Judge connection either. I think Eve has it right - it has to be connected with her job. I also don't understand why they haven't even looked at the victim's coworker who got into a car accident - this just can't be a coincidence!
Finished Calculated in Death #36 . You guys are right, this was fun! I kind of felt (view spoiler)Decided to jump right into the next one, Thankless in Death #37 ... That first scene was horrible! Weird, I actually knew a family where the son killed his mother because she was constantly "nagging him", and then ate and played videogames until a neighbor reported the smell... You couldn't really tell knowing him, that he could have done that, but you just knew he was not quite right... Very sad...
I don't think this guy is as limited mentally, but definitely entitled...
Also started Thankless and wow what an entitled asshole... I'm not sure how we're getting a whole book from this guy though. Will be interesting to find out! I loved all the interactions between Eve and her friends/family at the beginning though.. Roasting whathisface for the pink tie, Eve asking Peabody if she got laid (She actually brought it up!), Eve telling Morris he was family.. Just living for all these moments!!Wow Choko, that's crazy. Very sad.
I am honestly having a very hard time handling this book! I think because the attitude the killer has is very similar to people I have and have had in my life, and it's definitely pushing trauma buttons... Even when you love them and try to help them, they twist it to make you a villain... It is very, very difficult to live with someone like that, and they don't think anything after emotionally hurting you... And when they are family, you always hope something will change... For a bit it seems like they are on the right path, and then something doesn't go their way, and it's horrible...
I finished Thankless in Death #37 .... Despite how pathetically despicable the murderer was and how horrible the murders, I agree with you guys - the family/friends moments were very sweet and touching!!! I love little Shion and Nixey! Those kids are just adorable! So happy for the little girl finding strength to continue with a mostly normal life and allowing herself to love her new parents, without diminishing her feelings for her deceased family... And Eve's decision to (view spoiler) A very strong instalment!
Oh, so good to hear Nixie comes back! That's the girl from Survivor, right? Was just wondering if we'd get to see her again.
Thankless was a nice dichotomy, between the killer and the Thanksgiving themes...
Just read the short story Taken in Death, the Hansel & Gretel one... and the kids have this weird ability to mind-talk... I missed if they were twins, or it's just because they're the children of a twin...
At this point, all the short stories are fairytales... the only one left, I think, is Wonderment in Death, the Alice in Wonderland one... the one with the lady on the ferry was the last random one without a fairytale element... altho you might be able to stretch it and apply a Rip Van Winkle?...
