Children's Picture book. Kid finds or is given a big package/ bundle of parts, but it doesn't come with any instructions! Children's Invention/ creation book, 1985-1995?

Cannot for the life of me remember the name or author of a book i read as a kid.

Main character finds or is given a big box of parts. There are no instructions on what it builds. He lays out all the parts carefully across the pages of the book and then starts putting pieces together. Maybe it builds a machine that is like a boat, or an airmobile, or a truck?

I remember it being in black and white and red, and the boat invention was called something like a Boater-rotor. All the inventions were wild and crazy.

Are the illustrations: simple or detailed, realistic or cartoon-like? Do they remind you of a similar book illustrator?

Sorry, it's a children's picture book, I don't remember it being very long, and yes, somewhat cartoonist.

I don't think it reminds me of any other author
