Word list
beans--Flipped for Murder by Maddie Day--finished 11/16/2022--pg. 15.-- A dozen ribs oozing with sauce vied for space with corn bread, baked beans, and a little dish of cole slaw.
carrots--Flipped for Murder--pg. 70--Her slender hands were like machines with the knife, the carrots rapidly transformed into tiny cubes.
feast--A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens--finished 12/4/2022--Pg. 78--"The Founder of the Feast, indeed," cried Mrs. Cratchit, reddening.
lobster--You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism by Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar--finished 11/23/2022--pg. 9--They thought they might make lobster for the two of them.
mussels--Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach--pg. 223--Here is a partial list of what a herring gull considers edible--that is, things that have been vomited in the general direction of Julie C. Ellis, senior research investigator at the University of Pennsylvania: bologna, ants, strawberry shortcake, a large mackerel, a whole hot dog, intact mice, squid, a used sanitary napkin, discarded lobster bait, Vienna sausages, an eider duckling, beetles, rotten chicken drumsticks, a rat, a paper muffin wrapper, a loaded diaper, and a plate's worth of spaghetti marinara with mussels.
onions--Flipped for Murder--pg. 57--I'd created another section for fruit, and the last for vegetables, like green and red peppers, onions, and mushrooms for omelets, as well as lettuce and tomato for the burgers.
oyster--A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens--pg. 9--Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire, secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster.
plums--A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens--pg. 68--Nor was it that the figs, were moist and pulpy, or that the French plums blushed in modest tartness from their highly decorated boxes, or that everything was good to eat and in its Christmas dress, but the customers were all so hurried and so eager in the hopeful promise of the day, that they tumbled up against each other at the door, crashing their wicker baskets wildly, and left their purchases upon the counter, and came back running to fetch them, and committed hundreds of like mistakes, in the best humor possible;...
pumpkin (WITHOUT ‘pie’)--Flipped for Murder--pg. 201--Plus I'm going to turn into a pumpkin any night when i have to open the next day.
spinach--Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law--pg. 32-- You may have those hearts of romaine and that spinach gnocchi, but do not come near my grilled sustainable Skuna Bay salmon.
turkey--Flipped for Murder--pg. 14--"And beef and turkey burgers from Kiss My Grass Farm, Buck, so you'll have something to eat, too."
BONUS words :
cottage cheese /or/ curds--The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson--pg. 14--Fat camp is a place where they feed you lettuce and grapefruit and cottage cheese and eggs for a month, and you either give up and cheat or you give up and get skinny.
molasses--Flipped for Murder--pg. 221--I nodded as if molasses had a hold of my head.
venison--Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law--pg. 196--The driver or motorcyclist braked, and the vehicle skidded and went off the road or collided with something less yielding than venison.

Well we had "venison on the hoof" marching through our backyard the last few days. A single doe on Tuesday. An 8-point buck yesterday evening. And a small herd of 4 does parading through this morning.
Also a flock of about 15 turkeys putting on their very own Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade as they strutted their stuff down the middle of the street!
No oysters spotted, though.

Well ... this was not my month.
It seems that I completely eliminated one of the words when posting the challenge.
"herbs" should come between feast and lobster.
If you feel you have time to find it, go for it. If not ... it's a freebie!
Happy Thanksgiving!

This month’s challenge is inspired by the First Thanksgiving, when Native Americans joined the pilgrims in celebration. Of course, they didn’t have a convenient grocery store and had to hunt and gather the supplies for the feast.
Your challenge is to find the following words/phrases in the TEXT of the books you are reading this month. All are items that historians believe were likely part of that first thanksgiving feast.
You are NOT restricted to one book / one word; you may find as many of the words/phrases in a single book as you like. If you find all the words in one book you are really lucky!
Word list
beans
carrots
feast
lobster
mussels
onions
oyster
plums
pumpkin (WITHOUT ‘pie’)
spinach
turkey
BONUS words :
cottage cheese /or/ curds
molasses
venison
===========================================
Unless a variation is specified above, words must match exactly, with the following exceptions: I will accept a plural/singular version, or differences in spelling between British and American English (e.g. honor or honour). But those are the ONLY deviations allowed. So if you are looking for "gold" - I will NOT allow "golden."
All books used must be a minimum of 100 pages long - Page length determined by HARDCOVER 1st edition. If there is no Hardcover, then the most popular paperback governs page #.
You may read in any format - text, audio or e-book. If using audio or e-book I suggest using Amazon.com's "look inside" feature to get a page number for your quote.
You MUST finish the book before you can claim credit for finding the word/phrase.
EXAMPLE of a successful post:
Finger - The Summer Wives ✔ - 15March22 - pg 47 - "...instant before her fingers opened, I saw..."
If you'd like to be recognized as finishing, the challenge, please post a new comment alerting me to your finish. I do not get notifications when you edit your original post.
Have Fun!
