I will be working on this, but this is outdated:"The below books have series information listed in their titles. Per this thread (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...), that is no longer acceptable:The series of a book and its numbering within the series is still also listed in the title field and should not be removed (except when a "series" is not a series according to GR policy).
Prior to August 2010, this information [the series of a book and its numbering within the series] was listed in the title field; it should now be listed in the series area and removed from the title field where possible."

I am working on and off on this (last night I did another session). On and off because I find it mind-numbingly dull to check books with 1500+, 2500+, and even more editions :)I am going through all editions, because it is not enough to remove "Extraordinary Voyages" from the title fields of the above-linked books. "Voyages Extraordinaires" (the original title!), "Viajes Extraordinarios", "Viagens Maravilhosas", "Viaggi straordinari", "Călătorii extraordinare", "Podivuhodné cesty", etc. etc. also need to be removed and moved to the edition field. You catch my drift ;)
That said, I wouldn't mind help at all. I have done the first two titles of the Captain Nemo series (https://www.goodreads.com/series/1270... ).
In spite of what it says on the series page, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea has over 4600 editions. I tried not to be distracted by titles in all-caps, containing blurbs, etc. What did throw me a bit was that several editions named this as Captain Nemo #1 instead of #2. Not being a Jules Verne connaisseur (I've only ever read Around the World in Eighty Days), I have no idea which is correct.
I also did a few "smaller" titles using this search: https://www.goodreads.com/search?page... . Again, it's not enough to only remove the series name from the displayed editions, all editions need to be checked.
I think requests of this size would be better in the "Looking for a Project?" section. Just my opinion.

Thanks Lethe! I didn't realize that each version of each edition had to be checked, yikes. I wonder if there are, then, more books in this "series" that need to be checked...
I've gone back and added numbers for each of the editions to make it easier to keep track of which have been done.
Re: the Captain Nemo series... It's one of those series that wasn't originally published as a series by itself. Verne published all these novels under the umbrella of the "Extraordinary Voyages" series, which Goodreads does not consider a series; however, some books have crossover characters and therefore are considered a series by Goodreads, three of which are those currently in the Captain Nemo series. There is much greater crossover between Books 2 and 3 so many publishers bundle those two books together and ignore Book 1, which is (I imagine) why 20,000 Leagues is sometimes listed as Book 1/2 and sometimes as Book 2/3.
Do with that information what is appropriate.
I've also moved this to the "Looking for a project" folder.

"When working on title edits, I find it helpful to use the combine page, using the workID to filter a single title. Then use CTRL-F to search for the offending letter sequence. This would work for most languages on this project as "extra", "viag", "viaj".
Let me know which titles need attention and I'll take one.

Thank you! I edited the original post to strike these out.
Thanks for your help, Elizabeth! I don't have a list of titles needing attention, I just use this search form: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8...I had been through 4,600 editions of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and then when I looked later, some recombining had taken place and there were yet more series titles to be removed.
So whatever method you feel most comfortable with is fine by me. :-)
lethe wrote: "Thanks for your help, Elizabeth! I don't have a list of titles needing attention, I just use this search form: https://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8......"I used the links to the titles in Post #1. But I'm starting from the bottom of the list so we're not duplicating efforts. (Or at least that was my theory.)
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "lethe wrote: ""Voyages Extraordinaires" (the original title!), "Viajes Extraordinarios", "Viagens Maravilhosas", "Viaggi straordinari", "Călătorii extraordinare", "Podivuhodné cesty", etc. etc. also need to be removed and moved to the edition field. The edition field is the right field for collection titles and publishers' series, but it is not mandatory to put them there. I move them there because I do like the extra information and also in the hope that others will understand that this is a collection, not a series, but just now I reverted an edit where (Extraordinary Voyages #xx) had been added to the title field while already also being in the edition field, so maybe I'm expecting too much.
OK. When I read the manual, this isn't the type of information that would go in the edition field, because it applies to every edition of the title. I can see it going in the description field, but I can guarantee you I won't be taking that extra step. ;-)
@JenniferRe #25 and #38b "this has "Extraordinary Voyages #xx" listed in the book description where the format/page number should go?"
I don't know where you see this? If I look on their book pages, I don't see "Extraordinary Voyages" mentioned anywhere. If I look at their book edit page, it shows in the edition field, where it should be (apparently that field is deemed not worthy to be shown on the book page).
The page number fields for either are empty, and the first also does not have a format listed. It is undoable to go hunting for missing information on every edition, though.
Many of these public-domain classics could use some TLC, but as I said in msg #6, I tried not to be distracted by titles in all-caps, containing blurbs, etc. It is just too much. Maybe I'd feel differently if he was a favourite author of mine ;-)
Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "OK. When I read the manual, this isn't the type of information that would go in the edition field, because it applies to every edition of the title."It doesn't? The titles are different according to language, and collection titles belong in the edition fields. See f.e. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
But as I just found out the edition field is not even visible on the book page, feel free not to move the series titles but just delete them. :-)
lethe wrote: "The titles are different according to language, and collection titles belong in the edition fields."Well, yes, but the titles are different by language, too, and we still combine them, even when they are part of a Goodreads acceptable series. When an acceptable series, the series in different languages appears on the title line.
I always thought this applied to titles such as Harlequin, where there is a publisher series, but that doesn't apply to every edition of the title. Extraordinary Voyages is not a publisher series - at least not how I understand it.
lethe wrote: "But as I just found out the edition field is not even visible on the book page, feel free not to move the series titles but just delete them. :-)"
Yeah, the new book page still has some work undone. :-(

Oh lucky you if you can still see the old book page!Ah yes, I remember now what that looked like *sheds tear*. In any case, it was not added in place of the page count or format, it just appears in the same spot.
lethe wrote: "Jennifer, please remove your remarks from #25 and #38b (see msg #20 and #24-#25)."Will do!

Thanks for taking care of so many! Was busy over Thanksgiving but finally marked these as done.

There are posthumous titles and short stories. I'm going to do a global search on the Verne profile and try to get the rest cleaned up.
I've gotten done what I see for now. I'm sure the imports will require sort of regular attention to this.

The below books have series information listed in their titles. Per this thread (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...), that is no longer acceptable: Please do not add these books to the "Extraordinary Voyages" series as that series is not valid (see: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...).
"Extraordinary Voyages #___" needs to be removed from the titles of the below records (edit: most of them are also found on this Listopia if that's easier: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1...). Please do what you can; leave a comment with the numbers that you have done and I will
strike them throughso it's clear which still need addressing.#1 & 3 & 4 & 6 & 7 & 11 & 12 - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...#1 - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...
