Sorry, but Bill Bryson is not a Goodreads Author so you'll need to adjust your total GRAs down by one. No need to repost. This is just to let you know so we can keep our numbers in sync.

Graphic novels cannot be used for 20,25, and 30 point tasks unless explicitly allowed in the task. 20.1 does not specify graphic novels, so Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children: The Graphic Novel will not work for this task.

Task 5.4 is a cover task, and you must include the cover in your post.

Kiss and Spell does not have "humor" listed as a main page genre:

Fantasy 52 users
Womens Fiction > Chick Lit 33 users
Fantasy > Magic 28 users
Romance 27 users

Fiction 16 users
Fantasy > Urban Fantasy 11 users
Paranormal > Witches 7 users

If you had the genre locked in previously, please repost with that information.

Okay I am really confused. Posting rules state that I should only repost the task that had a problem in it, not the entire post. But I had two tasks in 755 and one was done correctly (I assume since you didn't ask me to correct it in this thread). So I should be at 155 right now according to this logic. I will repost the incorrect task but after that my total should be 180. Please advise. Thanks!

The Readerboard says it's only updated through post 750, so that's why your other task points aren't there. You only need to repost tasks that were listed as problems, so just 25.2. Usually they note all the others are fine, but I'd go with if they didn't say anything, it's good until I hear different from a mod.

Hope that helps! :)

Thanks, Morgan! I thought it had said 750 but then I saw the message and thought they had updated again while I wasn't looking. :) I did exactly what the rules said. I can't believe I forgot the re-read part! I tried to write it on my master list for every task that required it but I missed a spot (sigh- perfectionist issues over here).

Morgan is correct - your other points aren't going to show up until the readerboard is updated through 800. And there is no standard practice of reassuring you that everything else is okay - when we have had an "epidemic" of people reposting all of their tasks, we start reminding people that they only have to repost tasks that had problems. If no problems are noted, you shouldn't assume that there are any, unless the readerboard has been updated such that the relevant post would have been included and you are still missing points.

Jenna's Cowboy Hero does not appear to be about a woman serving in combat or about the direct aftereffects of being in combat, such as PTSD. Rather, from the description and reviews, it appears to be a romance that simply has a female veteran as a main character.

See the help thread for additional discussions of this. If this book is actually centered on her combat experiences or reactions to combat, please explain.

Task 20.7 requires that you specify the list/shelf on which you found your book and the page/number of your book on the list.

Sorry, I thought it would work because the task says: "The combat service may be in the past - i.e., dealing with flashbacks, PTSD, etc. - but the combat service must be important in the book. It is not enough that the main character has served in the past, if that is not an important part of the book."

Jenna was with a convoy while serving in Iraq that was attacked. She was injured during the attack and hidden by an Iraqi woman which saved her life. However, by the time they could get medical help, her leg had to be amputated. The book begins shortly after Jenna's release from the hospital. She struggles with nightmares about the attack and pain from adjusting to the new prosthesis while raising twin boys and getting back to "normal" life. The plan referred to in the GR description was an assignment from her therapist to help her see that Jenna could still have a good life despite her handicap. The plan doesn't include romance because her fiance ended their relationship due to the handicap. While the book is correctly classified as a romance, the injuries suffered during her service in the military are a major part of the plot and character development.

I've read the GR plot summary and the reviews of the book, and it appears that the focus of this book is the romance with her "cowboy hero" and that the book is as much about him as about her. If you can say that this book is primarily about combat and the effects on her of that combat, as opposed to primarily about this romance, then repost, explaining that the primary focus of the book is combat, not romance.

If you were summarizing this book for a friend, would your summary be "romance" or "a woman's combat experiences"?

Task 30.2 specifically states that books with the fantasy genre cannot be used for the task, unless the book was written during the relevant time period. The King's Hounds includes fantasy as a main page genre:

Historical Fiction 69 users
Mystery 49 users
Fiction 20 users
Historical 16 users
Mystery > Historical Mystery 12 users
Historical Fiction > Medieval7 users
Mystery > Crime 6 users
European Literature > British Literature5 users
Fantasy 3 users
Mystery > Murder Mystery 2 users

message 128: by Trish (last edited Mar 24, 2015 06:07AM) (new)

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3675 comments There's nothing fantasy about it. It's pure and simple historical fiction - "The first in the bestselling Danish series of historical mysteries" according to the Goodreads description.

Not a single fantasy element. It's not alternative history or anything like that. No magic, no weirdness, nothing. About the only thing it shares with fantasy is people carry swords - which of course they would in 1018. And neither of the other books in the series have fantasy listed (Oathbreaker, A Man's Word). Is there any room for movement at all? It seems silly to have to read the sequel instead, which is about the same characters, set in the same year, but just doesn't have the fantasy genre listed.
