SOLVED. YA Fantasy/ Scifi series: Kids travel through worlds with mythology Gods. [s]

This has been driving me bonkers. I remember a Ya book series where kids traveled too different worlds each controlled by a different culture's gods. There was one scene where the kids are in an Aztec world and meet creatures that make and throw supernatural sharp glaives. These creatures trade one small Swiss army blade for a kid's science textbook that shows the steel making diagrams. Can you guys help me.
