I want this challenge to be fun as well as challenging, so I'm just picking the book that I feel like reading and going with that. I've got a fair few classics/heavy books on my list, so I need to intersperse those with some easy reads so I don't get too bogged down. I do love the classics (mostly) but I enjoy something easy too - YA books are my secret pleasure.
So far I've finished books for Weeks 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 11, 16, 20, 23, 27, 33, 38, 40, 41, 46 and I'm currently working on Week 31. I really have jumped all over the place!

I am a jumper too. I have read:
1, 5, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 26, 27, 39, 43, 46, 47, 51
So looking forward to being on schedule for the next three weeks and a few weeks after that too!

I was planning on going week by week but I've been struggling with library availability. A lot of the books I want to read are on hold so I pretty much have to read according to what is available at the time or start a book next if the hold comes through on it.
I'm reading House of Leaves for one of the weeks and it was one of the only books that I've actually ordered as a paper copy (due to the unusual format). When it came in the mail I was pretty tempted to abort what I was reading and start it. But I really want to wait until a break from school so I can really focus on it and not carry it on the train. So more practical reasons are stopping me, as opposed to trying to stick to the order.

So far, I've read:
1-12, 14, 15, 18, 26, 27, 31, 37, 40 & 47
and currently reading week 30 (which I should be done today).
Picking the books that I'm in the mood for makes this a more fun challenge. I do still try to participate in the weekly discussions.

Sigh... nope. So I'm happy to see a "jumpers" thread because that's me. I was moving right along on my funny book, but then picked up a mystery and started that and couldn't put it down. Ended up not finish my week 8 book.
So I'm going to commit to being a jumper for the rest of the year. :p

I want this challenge to be fun as well as challenging
I completely agree. It seems like some people are taking this thing far too seriously. Just pick up a book and read it. Enjoy it without worrying which category it comes from or if you've read it out of order!!

What I am trying to do is complete the same amount of challenge books a month as I would if I were following strictly!

As for YA suggestions, try Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen by Tamora Pierce. Great reads in my opinion. I've read them both several times and I may have to use them as a book from my childhood now.
Also, the infernal devices series, by Cassandra Clare. The first three I really enjoyed, but I wish she's have ended the series there.

Another incentive to jump is my recent discovery of the ereaderiq.com site. I learned about it from another discussion group here. You can import an Amazon wish list of kindle books and it will monitor for you when the prices go down (they fluctuate a lot; it provides a comprehensive price history so you can see the averages and highs and lows). Some of the books I'm meant to read around this time are at an all-time high price. It almost makes you wonder if the pricing goes up with demand, which perhaps goes up for certain types of books during certain weeks of the challenge!
Jenna: I've sort of wondered if demand has gone up also. It didn't seem like THAT many people were doing the challenge. But I get my books through the Ohio Digital library and I've rarely had a large problem with long holds list in the past. But some of the more popular books (Big Little Lies, for instance) and even some of the less popular ones, with few copies, have had massive holds list this year. I just figured that I hadn't notice since I hadn't had such a strong urge to read particular books before. But you never know!

So far I have read weeks 3, 5, 7 (x2), 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 30, 35, 41, 44 and am currently working on week 1. Then I read a couple random books from my TBR pile, so obviously, I'm not reading anything in order. Haha!

Originally I wanted to follow the order, but I've found that jumping around is actually more enjoyable. I find I'm looking forward to reading the books more when I jump to a category I'm interested at the time.

I blame it on the ADD. I look at the bookshelf where I house my selections for the list and just read whatever jumps out at me.

I ended up doing something similar, I asked my boyfriend to pick my next book and he chose the first in the Heroes of Olympus series and then I needed to read the rest and found myself forcing the rest of the series into different weeks because I didn't want to read that many books without having it count towards something! haha!

Bahahaha! If there was a 'Like' button on here I'd be hitting it.

That'll give you plenty of choice for the 'book published this year' then. ;-)

I love this challenge! It's been very encouraging to read outside of my norm. And some folks have really opened my eyes about some books I was on the fence over. Nice. Let's keep having fun!!!

I'm currently reading a book turned into a TV show Kelley Armstrong, Women of the Otherworld Series
This series also covers the weeks for love triangle

But for me the reader, I pick and choose my topics as I go.
I have a spreadsheet with the topics and some suggestions of books I might want to read. What I pick is based on my mood - and what's in stock at the library.
This week four books I was on the waiting list for came in. So that's what is in my reading queue now: Book published in another language, book written by someone under 30, a popular author's first book and a book based entirely on its cover.

I'm checking off the categories as I read a book that fits the description and am doing so in no particular order. Maybe next year I will try to read them in weekly order so I will feel more "in sync" with the rest of the group.

I have done the same thing! When I did my best to stay true to the listed week topics, I just got too slow and felt forced. That made me unexcited about reading and that is not why I did the challenge! I then started skipping around and reading a few at the same time. Keeps with the change in my moods or what time of day I am reading, keeps my reading fun and fast. This challenge has really taught me more topics I will like to read and more about how I read!

The part I really like about this challenge is that I have read way more books by authors I had never thought of reading before and branched out into areas I wouldn't normally read from.
