Abrown | 2 comments Cover Description: I think the title was something along the lines of like Freaks and Rejects but I can’t find anything. I remember I had a hardback copy that was purple and had a jester/joker on the cover of it with a “sinister smile” (and before you say Batman, no, it’s NOT affiliated with the DC genre). It also had green vines around the jester/joker, that were thorny and a few cards from a deck too.

BOOK PLOT/SUMMARY: I don’t remember what happens at the end of the book - which is why I’d like to read it again, but from what I do remember the book is basically about a modern civilization that is being run by people who are “sending” or “making people believe” that they are living in a medieval world instead - the book follows a few different character aspects. People also had playing cards or a singular playing card they had to attach to their clothes symbolizing their status among others! I remember the book opening up or starting with like a kid named Mark who was cast out by his family bc he didn’t believe or give into the whole “medieval concept” so he was going to meet up with his Aunt who was also like him. He had a fake “2” playing card pinned to his shirt, but some little girl who had like an “8” playing card called him out and he ended up running away to his Aunt’s house, but he was too late and somehow she got caught up in the fantasy world too - Mark ended up dying or something and then it hops over to like the first chapter. That’s really all I can remember about the book but if I think of any more details I will further the description in this post :) I read this book around 2016 - 2017 when I graduated HS, but then gave the book away.
