Fall 22 Readathon: Team Carrot

I am excited to see a book that features sports. I purposely left 150 pages of Alice Cooper, Golf Monster: A Rock 'n' Roller's 12 Steps to Becoming a Golf Addict to finish during the readathon in case that was one of the prompts.

I'll be a bit busy in the middle of the read-a-thon but have a couple of books that I've started but have 100+ pages left that I know I can get done first thing on the 10th :)

I actually just read Murder on the Links a few days ago! I would suggesting adding "a book about family dynamics" to the options it falls under and removing "a book that features sports" since sports are never played in the course of the book (the only connection to sports is that the body is found on a planned golf course that's under construction, but golf is never otherwise discussed). Totally unsolicited advice so feel free to ignore me lol - I know you're going to read it soon enough anyway!

How funny you just read it! I have actually read it many, many times over the years, this one’s a reread, as it happens 😅 I didn’t intentionally leave it off family dynamics so thanks for pointing that out (just missed seeinf the prompt entirely)! I do think the golf connection is enough for the prompt for me (for example, discussing how much the location of the body suggests knowledge/ignorance of golf on the killer’s part) but thanks for the reminder on family dynamics!

I see, that makes sense!!
Can I ask what your favorite Poirot books are? I've only read 4 (Orient Express, Roger Ackroyd, Styles, and Links) and I'm trying to read at least 5 more but there are so many that it's really difficult to narrow it down!

You started with some of my favorites, actually! 😂 I also love Curtain (Poirot’s last case, it was written early, put away in a safe, and then published posthumously, so while it’s fun to read it last or at least after you’ve read several of his books, it’s by no means necessary - in many ways it has much more the flavor of the earlier Poirots than the later ones), Cards on the Table, The ABC Murders, Death on the Nile, Thirteen at Dinner/Lord Edgware Dies (US/UK titles but same book), and After the Funeral.

You’re very welcome! Hope you enjoy them ☺️ what did you think about the ones you’ve read so far?

Oh my gosh, what a mood, lol. I have a book club book I need to finish today that I’m not really feeling at the moment (it’s good, I’m just not in the right mood for it), and all I want to do is start in on the pile I’d marked down for this week instead 😂

I am feeling the same way, but luckily one of my manga library holds is available so I can read that today and work on my other books first thing tomorrow.

My favorite was Styles, then Orient Express and Links. Roger Ackroyd was good too but I unfortunately guessed the twist really early on because it was the same as another thriller I had read right before it!

I’m in Italy on my honeymoon for the next few days so should be able to read a lot! I have 100 pages left in a couple of books I’m in the middle of so in a good place to start.
It’s Saturday for me so I’ll get started!

That's unfortunate timing with the other book's ending! I got spoiled for it before I actually read it - in the silliest way, I picked up a book called "Who Killed Roger Ackroyd?" (nonfiction literary analysis of the book, it's actually a fascinating read), glanced at the back, and it said "Of course everyone knows *spoiler* killed Roger Ackroyd." Not everyone! I hadn't, yet! 😂 I think if you liked Styles best, you'll like Curtain a lot, too, it's got a lot of similarities, on purpose - the first and last Poirot cases, and they literally return to Styles for it.

Ahh congratulations!! And Italy, how exciting!

Congratulations, have fun!

Sorry, yes they should be on plans. 😊

I have one hour left of Charmed Life, so I'll be done with that soon as well. It doesn't fit a lot of prompts, so I'll probably put it on "author who isn't alive anymore". And then pick up Book of Night or The War Girls!

We already have two acorns. Good job, team!

Yesterday a wildfire started about 40 miles east of where I live and the smoke plus ash is making it hard for me to go outside so I will be able to spend today reading indoors.

Flying home tomorrow and going west so I get an extra long day! Hopefully I can motivate myself to read for much of the time.

Welcome Rose!
Roxana, that's so cool that Curtain goes back to Styles! Really looking forward to reading that one.
I didn't have time to check in last night but I just added the 3 books I've finished so far to 400+ pages, black&white cover, and YA book. Please feel free to move them around if they fit another prompt better! I just went by what it seemed like there were fewest of in the plans tab.

Sounds like a good idea to me! :) go team!

I ran through my planned audiobooks so much faster than I expected (I just got a new computer, and my games play sooo much better on it than my old dead one, it's hard for me to do anything else, lol), I have to get to these physical books eventually!

Same for the book I just finished, The Sun Is Also a Star - put it on family dynamics on that newly started cornucopia. (That's a pretty common prompt though, I suspect, so feel free to move it, anyone, if needed)

Next up is The Proposal! Taking off on flight #1 soon.
Hi! There was some confusion in my group about how to complete the cornucopias, so I've updated the first message in your thread to make it a bit clearer. Just wanted to let you know -- the prompts and requirements have not changed, just formatted them to be clearer on the requirements.
Just a reminder that I'm not actively checking all of the threads, so if you have any questions about the way the challenge works, feel free to post in the FAQ thread and I'll get back to you!

Finished The Proposal and started One to Watch on my last flight. Probably broke my record for number of pages read on a day.
Should I keep flying west around the world until the Readathon is over? 😹
