Fall 22 Readathon: Team Beet

I like the change that you have to earn acorns to complete a cornucopia, nice little additional challenge.
Editing to add steps to add your book to the Complete tab in a way that will use the snazzy formulas that Mahi created.
1. In the Complete tab, enter your name and the name of the book in the first available column. You could also copy just those two cells from the Plans tab and paste them. Do not copy and paste the entire column as this will remove the formula from row 4.
2. Also in the Complete tab, put an X in the cell for all prompts it fits.
3. In the corresponding Cornucopia tab for the prompt you're using the book for, select the dropdown. Your book should be in the list, along with the other books already used for the prompt. Select your book.
4. In the Complete tab, the Used for Prompt field is automagically filled in, and the select cell is highlighted in green.
5. Delete your column from the Plans tab.

Must read this week due to other commitments:
Nettle & Bone (fits animal in story, and probably family dynamics and set in nature, but we'll see)
The Dark Is Rising (Set in the 1900s and I believe natural setting. Possibly YA? The line between middle grade and YA is always hazy for me.)
Beyond that, I'll be able to read one or two more. I have a lot of choices on my list right now that fit several prompts, so I can be flexible depending on what still needs to be filled when I get through those two.

I'm finishing up a few long-term reading challenges, so those books will be my focus but I'll see what I can fit them.
I also like the acorn addition, it adds a little more reward for just reading/listening to a book

Happy reading all!! :)

I'm finishing up a family visit so don't anticipate reading a lot this weekend but have a flight on Monday that will get me some good reading time. I have 3 books I've started and will put those in the spreadsheet.

I’m pretty much starting all new books so I will see if any work or try and pick some new ones. It is going to be a peer busy week so who knows how much actually reading I will be able to read

Hope everyone has a great week of reading!

I'm hoping to get through at least 4 books this week, but hopefully more. I'm going to do 3 novellas, so that should help move things along. If I could just find categories for them. I'm also half way done with the Firekeeper's Daughter so definitely more than 100 pages left on that.
That said my books don't seem to fit a lot of the prompts. Eek. I'll keep looking and may be adding an extra one or two to the plan just to be safe. I can choose them based on where we're at in the week.
For anyone that has read Firekeeper's Daughter do you think it counts for "family dynamics"?

Excited to see how the challenge goes!

I also added some formula to the sheet to give us a dropdown with completed books that fit a prompt when making the cornucopias.

Prompts with only one:
- A book with a majority orange cover
- A book featuring a ghost
- A book with a majority yellow cover
- A book with an item of food on the cover

I'm doing another readathon today that has about 7 hours left so I'm hoping to finish at least one... Maybe two more of my in progress reads this afternoon! Allergies have me under the weather but it's making for good reading time as a silver lining!

I also need to read my library book

I have 3 cozy mystery audiobooks going so once I figure out which one I'm likly to finish first I will update the spreadsheet.

Allergies are bad here too, I'm glad though that they are giving you more time to read.

I have 2 books next in line at the library with ghosts so hopefully one of them becomes available this week.

That seems very useful! I'm going to try to write a formula that does it automatically.
Edit: done!

I will finish Carrie Soto Is Back at some point this afternoon, after I fold some laundry.

It will be another couple of days before I finish anything else that will fit a prompt.

I was able to get a copy of Reckless Girls with its yellow cover from the library so will start that in a few days.

Just finished Firekeeper's Daughter which can fit for 400+ pages, about sports, YA, mystery/thriller, sports or family dynamics. Is there any team preference where I put it?
I also finished Under One Roof. It's a romance, but the heroine is an environmental engineer and talks about climate change and the environment often, so I put it under about nature.

I'm reading four different books right now but I'm jumping back and forth between them, so I'm not sure when I will finish them.
I am reading Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs which has a ghost and that is the only prompt it fits, so I have that covered

Nice progress on cornucopias and nice to see we have our first acorn!

oshizu here and happy to join this team, which I was just assigned to this morning.
I'm already in the middle of The Book of Life, which includes ghost and is over 500 pages.
I shall go now to add books (and pages read) to the spreadsheet, but I have a question:
Can each prompt only be filled more than once, like in the recent Amusement Park readathon?
Or do we fill each prompt only once then focus on acorns?

What do you mean be each prompt being filled more than once?
I don't think we can focus on acorns, because we get them by any reading - we don't have to pick and choose whether we use a book for acorns or prompts, we can do both.

You don't have to pick cornucopias or acorns, we earn acorns by counting the pages read to get the cornucopias.
Make sense?

You answered my question, Nancy, about being able to fill a prompt more than once.
Since someone had already mentioned filling the ghost prompt, i wasn't sure if I should continue with my doorstopper.
Yes, I understand about not 'choosing' cornucopias, but am unsure how that works. Will the spreadsheet auto-complete the various "3 acorns" prompts, starting from the first cornucopia?
I'll take a closer look at the spreadsheet now.

After reading your response, I (finally) noticed the 3 acorns prompt at the top of each cornucopia!
Edited to add:
I assume our captains assigning the acorns would be easiest?

How was Carrie Soto?

I really enjoy Taylor Jenkins Reid I read her early stuff which was fun but was a little surprised when I heard all the praise for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo but she defiantly came into her own with that one.
I am glad to hear you liked it. I am going on a cruise to Alaska in a few weeks and trying to figure out what I want to read - this has now made the list!

I have at least 5 airport/airplane hours tomorrow evening, so should finish my red cover and get through more of both of my other in progress books.

it fills the following prompts:
*set in a school
*features a ghost
*about family dynamics
I slotted it for the ghost prompt. In the Completed tab, do we delete other possible fits and highlight only the chosen prompt we in lime green?

Nice!
The Completed tab should highlight the used prompt green automatically (I think it might not have here because the column itself was copied over from the Plans sheet so didn't have the formulas of the Completed sheet).
And keep the other possible fits because it lets us move books around later if needed.

I made it a lot further in The Poison Song today than I expected so should be finishing that up most likely tomorrow. Hopefully I can get some audiobook hours in at work too. 😀
Hi! There was some confusion in my group about how to complete the cornucopias, so I've updated the first message in your thread to make it a bit clearer. Just wanted to let you know -- the prompts and requirements have not changed, just formatted them to be clearer on the requirements.
Just a reminder that I'm not actively checking all of the threads, so if you have any questions about the way the challenge works, feel free to post in the FAQ thread and I'll get back to you!

You will work to fill each cornucopia using the prompts provided. You can read to fill them in any order you'd like, and you can refill the same ones multiple times.
Each book read may only be used for one prompt per team challenge. Don't forget about your acorns! You get some for every 1000 pages read (or 15 hours of audio listed to).
