Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I just went to the library and picked up Patina (orange cover, sports) and Concrete Rose (red cover, ya). Both should be quick reads, not sure if they cover other prompts.

message 102: by Nancy (last edited Sep 14, 2022 07:42AM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I am listening to Gods of Jade and Shadow but won't finish for a few days.

Drunk On Love, for orange cover, might be done tomorrow.

message 103: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I'll start my book for "author not alive anymore" after I finish Patina, which I'm hoping to finish today.

message 104: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I'll definitely finish Drunk On Love (orange cover) today, though it may not be until tonight.

Once I'm done with that I'll switch to reading Gods of Jade and Shadow on both Kindle and audio instead of only audio, so I'll finish it faster.

message 105: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I'm not loving Vicious (red cover) so far, so it's taking me longer to finish. Does anyone else have a red cover one coming up soon? If so, I may switch to a different book.

I should finish Testaments today though

One of my library holds came in with a red cover and I can certainly knock it out by this weekend. It can be my treat for getting through The Dark is Rising, which I'll finish tonight.

One o..."

I also have a red cover I could finish by the end of the read-a-thon if we need it.

message 108: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Thanks! Everything points to me loving Vicious but I'm just so bleh on it right now.

I can start Act Your Age, Eve Brown for first name in title

message 109: by Samantha (last edited Sep 14, 2022 11:19AM) (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I just finished Bliss Montage by Ling Ma and added it under orange cover. It was just published so could be moved to A book that was published in the fall if someone else finishes another orange cover.

I started the audio book of We Ride Upon Sticks it is a YA about a high school hockey team so covers a few prompts.

I will probably also start Lucie Yi Is Not a Romantic.

message 110: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I’m hoping to finish Murder is Binding today. The book seems so deal a lot with the main character and her strained relationship with her sister so I think it can work for family dynamics.’

message 111: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Drunk On Love will also work for published in Sept/Oct/Nov so I can put it there.

message 112: by Mahi (last edited Sep 14, 2022 01:11PM) (new)

Mahi | 95 comments Would this count as majority red?
I could have it done by the end of the challenge.
Murder on the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot, #9) by Agatha Christie

message 113: by Alicia (last edited Sep 14, 2022 01:19PM) (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I would say so, since the only other "colors" are white and black (and some people don't count those as even colors, just shades).

I also was thinking of maybe reading Scythe, and I was thinking red cover but it can also fit a lot of others.

Also, Mahi we could possibly put Murder on the Orient Express under author no longer living and complete Cornucopia #3

message 114: by oshizu (last edited Sep 14, 2022 03:41PM) (new)

oshizu | 96 comments Thank you, everyone. Especially, to Nancy for posting spreadsheet instructions, to Tracing for freezing the upper rows, and to Alicia for moving Malice to the mystery/thriller prompt!

I just finished reading Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said. It fits the dystopian novel & deceased author prompts.
Since the Plans tab shows more fits for deceased author, I slotted it as the 3rd dystopian novel. Also, does it look like a black/white cover to you?
Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said by Philip K. Dick

In progress:
* Beloved (Beloved Trilogy, #1) by Toni Morrison - red cover, ghost, magical realism
* I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou's Autobiography, #1) by Maya Angelou - orange cover, deceased author

I also own the books below and will read them next:
* The Grilling Season (A Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery, #7) by Diane Mott Davidson - yellow cover, food on cover, mystery
* Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur - black/white cover

message 115: by Mahi (last edited Sep 14, 2022 03:18PM) (new)

Mahi | 95 comments There are more planned books for diseased authors but none of them are read yet so I moved it to that slot and now we’ll have 5 complete cornucopias as soon as we get 2 more acorns!

And yep that looks black and white to me.

message 116: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I'm giggling at your typo, Mahi. "diseased"

@Mahi
Thank you for reassigning Flow My Tears.
I will also mark its black/white prompt on the Completed tab, just in case.

Edited to add: You're so quick Mahi!

message 118: by Alicia (last edited Sep 14, 2022 04:38PM) (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Just finished The Testaments and added it to Sept/Oct/Nov prompt which completed Cornucopia #1. Just need some acorns there. If we want though we can also move it to dystopia.

message 119: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I successfully added my book to the cornucopia 4!

message 120: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 722 comments Finished The Dark is Rising for cornucopia 4 as well. I will read Emporer Mollusk vs the Sinister Brain next for the red cover:

Emperor Mollusk versus The Sinister Brain by A. Lee Martinez

message 121: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I just added in my audiobook time today and added the scores to complete another Cornucopia #1

message 122: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I finished Homicide and Halo-Halo and put it in food on the cover #3. My next audiobook covers school or ya.

I ended up socializing tonight and didn't quite finish Patina, so will do that tomorrow.

message 123: by Nancy (last edited Sep 15, 2022 06:58AM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I finished Drunk On Love, and put it under orange cover. It also fits for 400+ pages and published in Sept/Oct/Nov but we have a lot of options for all 3 so just picked orange.

Anyone have any objections to moving the acorns from the second Cornucopia 1 to the first Cornucopia 3? I'd rather have one of each before moving on to seconds.

Do you guys think this fits black & white cover? It doesn't fit anything else. Unless there's an animal in the story that isn't clear from the description.

The Empress of Salt and Fortune (The Singing Hills Cycle, #1) by Nghi Vo

message 124: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Nope, sorry, we can totally move it over to 3

message 125: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I might be able to get some extra reading in today. We got a 7 month old puppy 3 weeks ago and when I took him to the vet on Tuesday, she said there dental cleaning tools broke and were being repaired so they had openings this week for spay/neutering so I dropped Sherlock off this morning. Then we have had my parents dog since Saturday and they got back into town late last night so I'm taking him home this morning.

message 126: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Alicia wrote: "Nope, sorry, we can totally move it over to 3"

Done! We have one of each now. Go Beets!

message 127: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Hello! I'm traveling so didn't get much reading in but did fly through the first half of Daisy Darker so added my pages for yesterday. Not much reading time today either but should at least contribute some pages. I'll be back home tomorrow night to finish the weekend strong.

message 128: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 722 comments Nancy wrote: "Do you guys think this fits black & white cover?"

I would not call that a black and white cover, myself. Empress of Salt and Fortune does fit animal in the story (the bird) and item of food on the cover (the word "salt" or the rabbit if you want to stick to depiction and can stand to be a bit mean). You could also make it work for family dynamics, and it fits as a political thriller, but not in the usual sense that genre is meant.

message 129: by Nancy (last edited Sep 15, 2022 08:43AM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Great, thanks Amy. I didn't think about salt being an item of food, but you're right. I don't think I'd want to use the rabbit as that though (unless they actually eat rabbit in the book).

message 130: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 722 comments I can't recall, but I don't think they do. The rabbit on the cover is very much a character reference, so I wouldn't want to use it that way either.

message 131: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Heartstopper Vol. 1 is sitting waiting for me at the library, and I just got confirmation that graphic novels count for prompts if over 200 pages and acorns regardless. So that will give me some quick pages once I get to the library! (And after watching the Netflix show, I'm super excited for the graphic novel)

message 132: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 722 comments That's fantastic. We definitely need those pages.

message 133: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I so wish I could read graphic novels. I had Sandman from the library, after having both listened to the Audible AND watched the TV show, and I still couldn't follow what was going on in the GN.

I even had my teenage son who reads manga try to explain it to me. I kind of got it then, but still feel like it's too much effort.

Alicia | 1490 comments Nancy wrote: "I so wish I could read graphic novels. I had Sandman from the library, after having both listened to the Audible AND watched the TV show, and I still couldn't follow what was going on in the GN.

I'm the same. I was so excited about The Umbrella Academy, Vol. 1: Apocalypse Suite but if I had never seen the show I wouldn't have understood it at all. I don't think my mind works in that way.

I'll start This Coven Won't Break tonight and should be able to finish by late tomorrow for YA. It also fits school, but it looks like YA would be better placement

message 135: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Finished Act Your Age, Eve Brown which I didn't like for various reasons.

But it could fit (1) first name or (2) family dynamics. Any preference where I put it?

message 136: by Mahi (new)

Mahi | 95 comments Alicia wrote: "Finished Act Your Age, Eve Brown which I didn't like for various reasons.

I moved Murder is Binding over to Cornucopia 1 (we just need more acorns there), so Act Your Age would be great for family dynamics.

message 137: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I will finish Gods of Jade and Shadow at some point tomorrow, and should be able to squeeze in The Empress of Salt and Fortune after that, and then that will be it for me as Sunday I have things going on that don't preclude reading!

message 138: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Oh for some reason I thought it ended today! How fun.

message 139: by Emma R. (new)

Emma R. | 79 comments I finished Crow and put it under first name is a title. I also finished Soul Taken and put it for a book with a ghost.

I'm working on Voice of War and still planning on finishing by Sunday

Same with City of Wind

message 140: by oshizu (last edited Sep 16, 2022 09:44AM) (new)

oshizu | 96 comments I finished Beloved by Toni Morrison. It was a difficult read so I'm reading a culinary cozy next.
Beloved works for the following prompts:
*red cover, features a ghost, set in 1900s, family dynamics, magical realism

Based on which prompts need filling, I'm changing my next books to the following:
My plan is to finish them over today & tomorrow.
*Cinder - dystopian, young adult novel, first name in title
* The Grilling Season - yellow cover, 400+ pages, mystery, food on cover

I had a different books planned for the dystopian, ghost, and black/white cover prompts, but I'll lay those aside for now.
I guess that, at this point, we're more in need of acorns than prompt fillers. :D

message 141: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I'm feeling under the weather so am laying low this weekend so should get lots of reading in.

Today, I hope to finish:
Slouching Towards Bethlehem - black/white cover or author no longer alive
Of Princes and Promises - set in school or YA

I'll plan to read:
Heartstopper: Volume One - YA, sports, or set in school
Concrete Rose - red cover, YA

I have some options for what I'll read after that. I might bring my focus back to what I need for other challenges and see if they fit here since we're in need of acorns.

message 142: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments This week actually worked out really well for me and audiobooks because I had to drive so much. I'll try to get two more books done by Sunday.

Reading These Witches Don't Burn which can fit in YA. Then I'll wait to see if we are missing anything before choosing a second book

message 143: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments Had a bad reading day yesterday, I think I need to DNF my audio book of We Ride On Sticks it is just not catching my attention and I forget to listen to it.

I am making progress on Lucie Yi Is Not a Romantic hopefully I can finish that up today.

Looks like we are doing well filling the prompts just need more acorns so will focus on just getting pages and hours read so we can get more of those.

message 144: by Nancy (last edited Sep 16, 2022 11:06AM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Alicia I admit I'm jealous of all of your audio time this week. Sometimes having to do a lot of driving is a good thing!

Traci hope you feel better soon.

Amy (Other Amy) | 722 comments Best wishes for good health, Traci.

I've been meaning to ask what you think of We Ride on Sticks since I still need the witch prompt for popsugar. Too bad it's not going well for you.

message 147: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Thanks for healthy wishes. Though I did just decide to take a partial sick day, it's not awful, but lingering symptoms that just aren't going away (travel didn't help).

message 148: by Jillian (last edited Sep 16, 2022 04:03PM) (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I finished Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt and added it to Magical Realism. I loved this book and magical realism is generally a genre I don’t care for but it was an excellent book.

Also, I updated the spreadsheet from my phone and I couldn’t figure out how to delete my book from the planning column U. If someone would like to delete it for me or I’ll delete it when I get in my computer later tonight or tomorrow.

Welp, it's got an octopus. *chucks book on to read shelf*

(ETA: Also, I deleted your completed column.)

message 150: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I'm back in town so my reading is slowly picking back up. I'm focusing on Her Majesty's Royal Coven which would work for Yellow cover with my edition and I'm sure other things. The audiobook finally came through from the library which hopefully means I can finish by tomorrow. Mostly I'll focus on getting pages in anything I can.
