Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments So I wasn't entirely truthful when I said I love everything TJR writes, I didn't love Maybe In Another Life, which is the only one older than Evelyn Hugo I've read (didn't hate it, but only gave it 3 stars).

But from Evelyn Hugo on, all 4 or 5 star reads. I put Carrie Soto on par with Daisy Jones (which is a MUST on audio), with Evelyn Hugo next, then Malibu Rising.

Anyhoo, I got a lot of reading time in yesterday and finished The Chosen and the Beautiful, which I put under Magical Realism.

Amy (Other Amy) | 719 comments Wow everyone is doing so amazing! I only managed a short story this weekend, but I should be able to pick up some ground during the week. Great job Beets!

message 53: by Mahi (new)

Mahi | 95 comments We have 3 more acorns! I put them in cornucopia 5.

message 54: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I had to frontload my reading as I have a really busy weekend coming up. I will be able to squeeze in audio at times but my page count will be low. I plan to finish at least one, possibly two, maaaaybe three more if I do a short one on audio.

If you like audio books Daisy Jones & The Six was really well done.

message 56: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I seem to be in the minority but I love audio books and didn’t like Daisy Jones & The Six. I think, perhaps all the hype about how good it was made it more disappointing to me. It is the only book by Taylor Jenkins Reid that I have read and I’m leery to read another.

@Mahi
Sorry for messing up the Completed tab by copy/pasting from the Plans tab. I understand that each readathon team handles their spreadsheet different.
Now I know that slotting a book into a Cornucopia prompt will fill the prompt text and highlighted x in the Completed tab.
Thank you for your patience! :D

In other news, I just finished Missing Person by Patrick Modiano , a mystery with philosophical overtones set in Paris by the French author Patrick Mondiano.
Prompt fits:
*pub. in September
*black/white cover <-- selected prompt
*mystery/thriller

And I've just started Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said, a dystopian novel by a deceased author.

message 58: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Oh, I missed that piece too. I've been copying from Plans to Complete, because that's how my teams have always done it in the past.

Mahi can you explain what we're supposed to do when finishing a book so the formula works right? Just put it in the Cornucopia, and then it will appear in the Complete tab?

message 59: by Jillian (last edited Sep 12, 2022 02:43PM) (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I don't get what is going on with the spreadsheet. Normally, you just add your book but I'm getting invalid entry.

This is my book for food prompt Haunted in Little Leaf Creek by Cindy Bell

I'm just leaving my book on the planning tab AH since I'm completely confused with our spreadsheet.

message 60: by Mahi (last edited Sep 12, 2022 02:52PM) (new)

Mahi | 95 comments I'm sorry if I've made everything too complicated!

What you do when you're finished with a book is the same as always. Add it to the completed tab with the x's marking potential prompts.

And then when you slot the book into one of the Cornucopia slots, it'll highlight in the Completed tab.

You don't have to worry about not copy/pasting the columns. It'll mess up the formula for the highlighting but I check the sheet often enough to fix it.

I just checked, the invalid entry is because the book isn't in the Complete tab - I'll add it.

message 62: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I'll hopefully finish The Travelling Cat Chronicles tonight, or early tomorrow so I can add it to published in Sept/Oct/Nov. Does someone have a mainly orange cover? Then with more acorns we can complete Cornucopia #1

message 63: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments If you do copy and paste, I think it just won't automatically highlight the square used but it should still work otherwise. I think I did it that way before seeing that there was a formula in there.

message 64: by Mahi (new)

Mahi | 95 comments And that means we have our first cornucopia complete!
Awesome work everyone :)

message 65: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments Thanks, Mahi!

If I have trouble next time (which is likely 🤪) I’ll post a message here.

message 66: by Nancy (last edited Sep 12, 2022 04:05PM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Okay so here's what we should do (sorry I'm in QA, I need a workflow!):

1. In the Complete tab, enter your name and the name of the book. You could also copy just those two cells and paste them. Do not copy and paste the entire column as this will remove the formula from row 4.
2. Also in the Complete tab, put an X in the cell for the prompt it fits.
3. In the corresponding Cornucopia tab, select the dropdown. Your book should be the only option; select it.
4. In the Complete tab, the Used for Prompt field is automagically filled in, and the select cell is highlighted in green.
5. Delete your column from the Plans tab.

Is that correct?

Nancy, that is very helpful. Could you copy it and add it to message 2 so it is easy to find?

message 69: by Mahi (new)

Mahi | 95 comments Nancy, that’s beautiful!

The only change I’d make is putting an X in all prompts that fit, not just the one (so we can move stuff around if needed)

message 70: by Nancy (last edited Sep 12, 2022 04:32PM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Okay I edited message 2 with the steps, modified a bit from what I typed before.

Please let me know if anything is unclear.

message 71: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2922 comments I always enjoy learning new things about spreadsheets during the read-a-thons. They are not something I regularly use.

message 72: by Deborah (last edited Sep 12, 2022 05:14PM) (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Fire with Fire by Destiny Soria

I think this could count as a book with an orange cover but it is one I probably can't get to until the weekend.

message 73: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I use spreadsheets, but my formula game is nothing like Mahi's. I can do the basics and that's about it.

I finished Less, and the only animal that makes a brief appearance is a camel while he's in Morocco so I don't think it counts. Oh well, my 2 hours today got us another acorn at least. The book club discussion tomorrow should be an interesting one!

message 74: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I love excel and am extremely jealous of Mahi’s skill. I’m a basic Countif and averageif type of gal .

message 75: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments Finished traveling cat chronicles. I put it with featuring an animal, but we can move to sept/Oct/Nov if needed.

I tried to power down these last few days as my progress will start to slow down the rest of the week. I have to go into the office and socialize with human beings. It sounds terrible and is. But I’ll get some good audiobook time in during the drives. I’ll be starting The Testaments by Margaret Atwood so we can fit it into dystopia.

message 76: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Finished my first book in the airport today! I should finish the next two tomorrow (or be close). I'll be back to work after 2.5 weeks off...

message 77: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments Good Morning all! I should finish my audiobook today (Because I Could Not Stop For Death) and then I'm not sure which of my in progress reads I'll prioritize.

message 78: by Nancy (last edited Sep 13, 2022 07:33AM) (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments I got about halfway through Drunk on Love last night, which fits for orange cover. Unfortunately I have something tonight so won't be able to read as much but am hoping to finish it tomorrow.

We have 2 cornucopias now! Great job team!

message 79: by Amy (Other Amy) (new)

Amy (Other Amy) | 719 comments I will finish The Dark Is Rising tonight or tomorrow (I forgot I agreed to meet a friend for dinner tonight). Set in the 1900s seems like the best slot based on our current progress.

Go Beets!

message 80: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments I wound up finishing Because I Could Not Stop For Death faster than expected so put it in for another fall published book.

I'm moving Fire With Fire into my current audiobook stop to get an orange cover. I could possibly finish today... Depends how the day goes!

message 81: by Emma R. (new)

Emma R. | 79 comments I've been sick, and my office just had someone leave, so I'm doing two jobs, so sorry for the lack of check-ins and captaining.
@Mahi, thanks for doing such a great job and for overseeing the spreadsheet

Here is what I have done so far:

I have finished Tin and put that for someone's first name (I loved this book and spent all of Sunday reading it)

I finished Girl on Fire and put that for family dynamics

I also finished Viridia and put it down for a book that was published in the fall

For the books I am currently reading, here is my progress:

Crow: 37% and hoping to finish by tomorrow

Soul Taken: 52% and hoping to finish tonight

Voice of War: 35% and planning on finishing by Sunday

City of Wind: 31% and planning on finishing by Sunday

message 84: by Emma R. (new)

Emma R. | 79 comments I haven't had to leave early from work this week, so I'm counting that as a win. Luckily, I was training the person who left, so at least I know how to do everything and what stage projects are at

Sorry to hear you're sick and having more work than expected. I like that you've been able to put a slightly positive look on the situation.

message 86: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments I froze the top 4 rows in the planning tab so I could see title/reader/progress when scrolling down through the cornucopias. Let me know if that's a problem. It wasn't an issue with my phone, but now that I'm back on my computer, I'm struggling when looking at options because of the need to scroll.

I think freezing those rows was a good idea. I was having trouble tracking my column yesterday.

Jillian | 2922 comments Mahi, my husband is currently doing a reread of Sanderson's Mistborn series in preparation for the next book in the series coming out in November.

If that means traffic, that sounds awful! Though, audiobooks make it better.

It’s my first time reading it! I really love it, I can’t believe I haven’t picked these books up before.

oshizu | 96 comments I ended up reading Malice by my favorite Japanese mystery writer first. It's my last book for a yearly mystery-based reading challenge I'm doing.
There are already 3 each of the mystery/thriller prompt and published in Sep/Oct/Nov prompt filled so Malice will just contribute to acorns. :D

In progress:
*Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said - deceased author, dystopian
*I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings - orange cover, deceased author

I think we should put Malice in the published in Sep/Oct/Nov prompt. If we want, we could juggle one of the other two that are currently slotted there since they fit some other prompts.

message 94: by Alicia (last edited Sep 13, 2022 04:39PM) (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I moved Malice to mystery/thriller since Firekeeper's Daughter fits a ton of the prompts. I then moved Firekeeper's to sports, so in Cornucopia 5 we just need YA (I think Nancy is working on Gods of Jade and Shadow) and some acorns to complete

message 95: by Traci (new)

Good call.

message 96: by Traci (new)

Traci (tracibartz) | 1275 comments Our need for acorns has me thinking I should check out rom coms or YA since those are the types of books I read more quickly.

message 97: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments That's partially my fault. I finished 3 books this weekend, but all were romance novellas (127 pages each) so they were easy to get in for prompts, but not a lot for acorns

message 98: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1585 comments I was going to get started on Reckless Girls for a yellow cover but might see if I can find a sporty YA as those seem to be more in need.

They were probably quick reads though! I don't think fault should be placed anywhere, I think it just takes awhile to get acorns (3000 pages is much more than 4 books usually).

message 100: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments I’m going to look for some orange covers. We’re a book away from another Cornucopia #1
